The story takes place in a world full of curses, cursed spirits, cursed powers and techniques. However, most of the population is unaware of this, as they secretly protect it by exorcising cursed spirits; while encountering some of the most powerful cursed spirits.
The series begins with Yuji Itadori, an ordinary high school student, who is drawn into this world after eating a cursed item (a preserved finger) that belongs to the King of Curses and gains his powers by becoming his vessel.
Now, Yuji and the other Jujutsu sorcerers search for Sukuna's remaining fingers and exorcise the cursed spirits that cross their path. This is necessary given that the cursed spirits' main goal is to eradicate all humanity by reviving Sukuna using his 20 fingers.
What are cursed spirits?
They are a race of spiritual beings born from the cursed energy of people's negative emotions gathered together. Cursed Spirits are corrupted spirits that haunt humanity and vary in all sorts of shapes and sizes, and have horrible looks.
They believe that they are the true manifestation of life and that humans are false beings who should not exist. As the series continues, the manga introduces us to many cursed spirits and their different powers. Let's discuss ranking the most powerful cursed spirits in the series.

Top 20 Strongest Cursed Spirits in Jujutsu Kaisen
20) Ko-Guy
The last place in this ranking of the strongest cursed spirit in Jujutsu Kaisen belongs to Grade 2 cursed spirit Ko-Guy. He is one of the curses who join his group to attack Shibuya. The curse has a humanoid appearance with the head and wings of a locust and was born from humanity's fear of the locust plague.
Ko-Guy meets in B2F at Meiji-Jingumae Station and is quickly exorcised by him. The Curse has a grasshopper physiology and is fully capable of melee combat. It can also cough up black mucus and has an expandable stomach.
19) Finger Carriers
Apart from , the first special level cursed spirit that Yuji and his classmates encounter is the Fingerbearer of the Eishu Juvenile Detention Center. Fingerbearers are cursed spirits of special quality that are born from a cursed womb when a curse ingests one of Sukuna's fingers. encounters another Fingerbearer under the Yasohachi Bridge in the Death Painting arc.

Rainbow Dragon is another powerful special cursed spirit in Jujutsu Kaisen. He was summoned by none other than with his Cursed Spirit Manipulation during chapter 72 of the manga. As its name suggests, Rainbow Dragon is a majestic cursed spirit and one of the most powerful in dragon form.
In the manga, it is mentioned that Rainbow Dragon, along with Kuchisake-onna, are two of Suguru Geto's most powerful cursed spirits during his battle against . It took a lot of strength and precision on Toji's part to slice the rainbow dragon, as it was known for having the toughest skin.
However, we haven't gotten to see Rainbow Dragon in much action yet. But without a doubt, if it was any other Jujutsu user, it would have been extremely difficult to exorcise Rainbow Dragon.
17) Akuro-o-Otake
Cursed Spirit Manipulation is one of the most powerful and useful cursed techniques in Jujutsu Kaisen. Many curses on this list are controlled by the technique and one of them is Akuro-o-Otake. This is a special quality rebel spirit that makes its appearance in the story when Kenjaku summons it during his fight in the Lake Gosho colony.
All that is known about Akuro-o-Otake's powers is that it is a special grade and therefore possesses extraordinary cursed energy. He fails to demonstrate his powers in the story as he is soon exorcised when Takaba runs over him with a truck.
16) Tamamo-no-Mae

Suguru Geto summoned it during his final battle against and . The full powers of Tamamo-no-Mae Incarnate are completely unknown. 15) Kuchisake Onna
At number 15 in this ranking of the most powerful cursed spirits in Jujutsu Kaisen is the imaginary vengeful spirit Kuchisake-Onna. She is of an unknown level and one of Geto's most powerful cursed spirits when he was a second year student at Tokyo Jujutsu High. Geto uses it against Toji during the Star Plasma Vessel mission but it is quickly exorcised by the Sorcerer Killer.
Kuchisake-Onna's powers are pretty twisted. She applies a simple domain that creates a binding vow between her and her target to forbid all violence until her question is answered. This is another cursed spirit under the control of Kenjaku's cursed spirit manipulation. Ganesha is an “Asian divine curse” of special quality and resembles the Hindu god of the same name. The cursed spirit is huge, with four arms and an elephant's head. The cursed spirit closely resembles the deity that inspires it.
Ganesha's powers are explained quite vaguely but judging from the explanation Kenjaku gives, his abilities can be quite versatile. The only ability he displays is to clear Kenjaku's "obstacles" by teleporting American soldiers outside into the air. The cursed spirit is then exorcised by .
13) Kechizu
One of the nine Cursed Womb: Death Paintings, Kechizu is the younger brother of Choso and Eso. Unlike his brothers who have human appearances, Kechizu resembles a curse with a curvy turquoise body, bleeding eyes, and two mouths. He, along with Eso, is the main antagonist of the Death Painting Arc.
Kechizu uses the Rot and Decay technique against his opponents. His blood is rotten and he sprinkles it on his opponents to poison them. Blood can burn opponents on contact with skin. Blood infection causes rose patterns to appear on the opponent's body before decomposing.

Eso is another Cursed Womb: Death Painting and the younger brother of Choso and Kechizu. He is a tall, muscular man who wears risky clothing and has a grotesque face on his lower back. He is very embarrassed by the face on his back and will kill anyone who sees it.
Eso's powers are the same as Kechizu's. Its blood is also toxic and destroys the opponent's body when sprayed. He sprays his poisonous blood on his opponents from the face and back. The blood flow from this face can also create wings made of blood to grant Eso more mobility.

Then the curse counts to three and once the countdown ends, the captured target catches smallpox and dies.
10) Kurourushi
Kurourushi debuted as a special grade cursed cockroach spirit in chapter 173 of the manga. This was the result of manipulating Kenjaku's cursed spirit. Despite being a cursed spirit manifested by the world's hatred of cockroaches, he was able to communicate somewhat and display intelligence. The entire character design and Jujutsu abilities are cockroach themed.
His powers were best demonstrated during his battle against Yuta Okkotsu, the second most powerful Jujutsu wizard after. Kurousruhi managed to defeat Yuta using his frightening physical abilities and Jujutsu. He was even capable of using powerful cursed tools such as the Festering Sword of Life which increased his attack to an unstoppable level.
Kurourushi displayed powerful Jujutsu techniques against Yuta, which he struggled to counter. He also possessed incredible physical combat strength and strategy. If not for Yuta's special reverse curse technique, he would have succumbed to Kurourushi's powers.
9) Naoya Zenine
Naoya Zenin is the son of Naobito Zenin, the leader of the , and a level 1 special jujutsu sorcerer. He is also the leader of the Hei, the strongest group in the clan. Naoya is Mai's cousin and always makes fun of him for being weak. After Mai's death, Maki unleashes her full potential through the Heavenly Restraint and kills the entire family.
When Naoya and Maki fight, the girl easily dominates her cousin but the man is irritated. When he is killed by Maki's mother, he is soon born as a vengeful cursed spirit. As a curse, Naoya is even more powerful than before and has made a domain expansion: Time Cell Moon Palace.

Choso is the oldest of the Cursed: Womb Death Paintings which debuts in chapter 62 of the manga. He is 150 years old, half-human and half-cursed spirit, classified as special grade, with no bloodlust or malice towards normal humans. Choso loved his siblings very much and was very protective of them. However, he was only drawn into the ongoing rivalry and dark politics of Jujutsu Kaisen when his brothers, Kechizu and Eso, were killed by Yuji Itadori and .

Having lived for over a century, he is very intellectual and intelligent, unlike other cursed spirits. He is also an expert in Taijutsu, meaning he has incredible physical and combat skills.

Dagon is a cursed spirit of special quality that existed in the form of a cursed womb. In chapter 10 of the manga, he is first mentioned when Mahito reveals that he created a cursed womb using Sukuna's finger. Later, we see him fully evolve during the Shibuya Incident arc when he appeared at Shibuya Station.
He uses cursed water-based techniques and can even cast a powerful domain. It can kill non-wizards simply by consuming them in the blink of an eye.
During the Shibuya Incident arc, he is able to defeat Maki, Naobito, and even within his domain. His Water Barrier is his absolute defense which remains unbreakable by these elite sorcerers. It is only through the intervention of Toji and Megumi that ultimately leads to him being exorcised.

Mahito is such a sadistic, hateful and uncompromising cursed spirit that he plays with human souls just for his experiments and plans to eradicate human beings. One of the oldest characters in Jujutsu Kaisen is Tengen, more commonly known as Master Tengen. Thanks to their CT, Immortality, they can live forever until they are killed, but they must transfer into a new body to stop their evolution which can be disastrous for humanity. As their bodies cannot adapt to evolution, they became a humanoid form and eventually a cursed spirit.
Tengen is the master of barriers and the most powerful barrier user in the world. It is their barrier technique that conceals and protects the peaks of Jujutsu. After Choso, Yuki and they are defeated by Kenjaku, they become absorbed by his manipulation of the cursed spirit. Kenjaku later uses them to destroy the pure barriers of the .
2) Rika Orimoto
Rika Orimoto is a special quality vengeful cursed spirit who was also a childhood friend of Yuta Okkotsu. She is introduced in Jujutsu Kaisen 0. After being in a car accident, her powerful cursed spirit manifested and haunted Yuta. After fully manifesting, her cursed energy and abilities are so powerful that she is titled "Queen of Curses".
Someone already as strong as Suguru Geto risks everything to get it from Yuta only to ultimately fail. He believes his power is enough to eradicate all non-wizards. His unique powers allowed him to summon the Inumaki family's "serpent eyes and fangs", allowing Yuta to use the deadly Curse Speech technique similar to Inumaki's.
