Now that the nominations have been announced, let's take a look at all the nominees and categories for the Crunchyroll Anime Awards 2024:
Crunchyroll Anime Awards 2024: all nominees and categories
Nominations for the 2024 Crunchyroll Anime Awards were announced on January 17, 2024. This was also when the voting portal was opened. There are a total of 192 nominees for 32 categories, with 6 nominations in each category. Naturally, the most important award of the year is the Anime of the Year award. The category holds some notable titles that were expected even though there were some setbacks.
Here are all the nominees for the Crunchyroll Anime Awards 2024:
Anime of the year
1) Bocchi the Rock!
One of the healthiest musical anime in recent times is Fall 2022's Bocchi the Rock! The story revolves around a shy guitarist, Hitori “Bocchi” Gotou, who dreams of playing with a band. When she meets bubbly drummer Nijika Ijichi, she is asked to take on the position of guitarist in the Kessoku Band after the original guitarist, Ikuyo Kita, left before their first concert.
His dream come true, Bocchi joins the group and meets his other comrade: bassist Ryou Yamada. Soon, Ikuyo joins the group again and the girls find their music together.
2) The man with the chainsaw
MAPPA's highly anticipated animated adaptation of Chainsaw Man has met everyone's high expectations. The dark story follows Denji, a broke orphan, and his pet Devil Pochita. When Denji is sacrificed to a devil by moneylenders, Pochita becomes his heart so that he can continue to live and achieve his dreams, making him the eponymous Chainsaw Man.
3) Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Blacksmith Village Arc
The third season of Demon Slayer turned out to be as good as its predecessors. This season is the adaptation of the Swordsmith Village Arc of the manga. During this season, Tanjiro goes to the hidden blacksmith village with Nezuko to repair his broken Nichirin blade.
Demon Slayer season 3 has two Hashira joining the main cast: Mist Hashira Muichiro Tokita and Love Hashira Mitsuri Kanroji. The main antagonists of this season are two demons from the High Moon: Upper Moon 4 Hantengu and Upper Moon 5 Gyokko.
4) Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2
Jujutsu Kaisen is back with another explosive season that takes the world by storm. The second season features two arcs from the manga: the Hidden Inventory Arc and the Shibuya Incident Arc. The Hidden Inventory Arc shows a flashback to when Gojo was a sophomore at Jujutsu High with the evil curse user Suguru Geto.
The Shibuya Incident Arc takes up the majority of this season and delivers one exceptional fight after another. This season is a must-see for anime lovers.
5) Oshi no Ko
From the author of Kaguya Sama: Love Is War, Oshi no Ko is another masterpiece that everyone needs to experience. This drama focuses on the dark side of the idol industry and tells the story of Ai Hoshino, a popular teen idol who becomes pregnant and has to give birth in secret.
Her doctor, Gorou Amemiya, is a big fan of hers, and after her sudden death, he is reincarnated as one of Ai's twins: Aquamarine.
6) The Vinland Saga Season 2
The second season of Vinland Saga follows Einar whose life is turned upside down when English raiders invade his village. He loses his family and is captured by raiders as a slave. He is then bought by a slave owner named Ketil and meets Thorfinn, another slave drowned in melancholy. The two become friends and work together to regain their freedom.
This season is just as awesome as last season and is the perfect watch for seinen lovers.
Best current series
1) Attack on Titan (Attack on Titan Final Season The Final Chapters Special 1)
The Attack on Titan anime has finally come to an end with its much-loved finale. But the one nominated for the Crunchyroll Anime Awards 2024 is The Final Chapters Special 1. The first hour-long special of The Final Chapters shows the start of the Rumbling and how the remaining Survey Corps join forces with the remaining Warriors join forces for the 'Stop.
The stage ends just before the Battle of Heaven and Earth begins, leaving the final battle for the second stage.
2) One piece
One Piece needs no introduction and it's no surprise that it's nominated again for Best Ongoing Series. Even after 25 years on the air, the series still offers cutting-edge content, as evidenced by the quality of the Wano Country Arc.
Follow Luffy and his crew as they join forces with the Samurai, Minks, Heart Pirates, Kid Pirates and others to defeat two Yonko, Kaido and Big Mom and save the land of Wano from the evil clutches of the Beast Pirates.
3) Spy x Family (Spy x Family Season 1 Court 2)
The much-loved Spy x Family delivers yet another package of utter hilarity and wholesomeness with the second part of its first season. While master spy Twilight poses as psychiatrist Loid Forger and forms a fake family with Yor Briar and Anya, he doesn't yet know that his new wife is secretly an assassin and his daughter a telepath. Their new dog Bond, endowed with clairvoyant abilities, joins their little family.
4) Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba (Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Swordsmith Village Arc)
5) Jujutsu Kaisen (Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2)
6) Vinland Saga (Vinland Saga Season 2)
Best new series
1) Celestial Illusion
Spring 2023's Heavenly Delusion is a wonderfully made sci-fi adventure anime about a dystopian world ravaged by man-eating monsters. In this horrible environment, Kiruko and Maru are two young people who join in their quest for the legendary paradise, while fighting against their inner demons and the cruelty of the world.
The premise of this anime is well-crafted with enough mystery to keep viewers hooked and enough interesting characters to keep it out of the group of average sci-fi anime.
2) Heaven from Hell
The future of shounen anime looks bright with new additions like Spring 2023's Hell's Paradise. The story follows Gabimaru the Hollow, a ninja on death row who remains apathetic in the face of his execution. However, each assassination attempt fails and ultimately, Sagiri Yamada Asaemon, a member of the famous executioner family, is given the task of carrying it out.
Realizing that Gabimaru will not die, Sagiri offers him a chance to regain his freedom by traveling to Shinsekyo Island and bringing the Elixir of Life.
3) Zom 100: List of deaths
Zom 100 is a brilliantly comedic take on the zombie genre that gets viewers hooked from the very first episode. The story follows Akira Tendou, a young man stuck in a dead-end job and depressed to the point that even a zombie apocalypse seems like a better situation than going back to work.
One day his dream comes true and he finds Tokyo filled with zombies. However, unlike most people who are scared to death, Akira gets his first taste of freedom in a long time.
