He fought with three demons for Marechi's blood in episode 12 of the Kimetsu no Yaiba (Demon Slayer) anime series and chapter 23 of the manga. One of the other demons being the Horned Demon , and the other being Kyogai. He is voiced by Tarusuke Shingaki in the Japanese version of the anime.
"I'm going to drink your brain through your ears!"
—The Tongue Demon to Zenitsu, Episode 12 of Demon Slayer
Appearance
As its name suggests, the Tongue Demon's most distinctive feature is its long and powerful tongue. The Tongue Demon has four eyes, two of which are located on its forehead and are red, and the other is bright green. Unlike other Demons, who are usually bipedal, it uses its arms to walk on all fours.
He wears a green belt around his body and has short black hair falling on his head. He has two horns protruding from his forehead with prominent veins. His tongue takes on a specific shape unusual for a human tongue, being thicker at the tip.
Personality
The tongue demon is bloodthirsty and only seems interested in consuming humans. It was brazen enough to challenge Kyogai for the Marechi bloodline, even though it was a low-level demon. This demon also showed determination when chasing Zenitsu around the house, repeatedly threatening to kill and eat him.
Demons in Demon Slayer
Demons come in all shapes and sizes. At first glance, most demons appear normal, with only slight changes, such as paler skin, cat-like eyes and oddly shaped sclera, black patterns running across their bodies in different ways, or a variation in their hair. The changes vary from demon to demon, as some demons may retain their normal appearance while others gain grotesque features such as multiple limbs, horns, appendages, organs, and even heads.
It is known that the more people a demon kills, the more physical changes it is able to produce.
Light is toxic to all demons, making it their only threat. Sunlight ignites the demon's cells and hinders their growth to the point that the demon's entire body crumbles to dust, triggering its demise. Wisteria flowers can also be used as a base ingredient to craft deadly and very potent poison concoctions that can easily dispose of weaker demons. Finally, there are the crimson iron nichirin blades, which absorb sunlight so much that a decapitating blow from such a tool can execute a demon instantly.
The first demon was Muzan Kibutsuji, who supposedly lived thousands of years before the story begins. The one who transformed him into such a demon was a kind doctor from the Heian period who tried to save Muzan from death because he had been infected with a disease that would destroy him when he reached the age of twenty. Muzan murdered the doctor before the two could complete the procedure by making Muzan drink the last of his "Blue Spider Lily" medicine, out of desperation and the belief that the medicine might be ineffective and only cause him more pain.
Demons are not born naturally, but reproduce by transforming into a person after being subjected to the blood of a very powerful demon; only Muzan and its two highest demon moons, Doma and Kokushibo, have been seen to have this ability.
Drum House Arc Synopsis

The four enter the house, and are suddenly separated when the house begins to transform into the sounds of drums. Tanjiro encounters the ominous demon called Kyogai, as well as Inosuke, an enigmatic demon slayer. Throughout the building, the demon slayers navigate, discovering demons along the way, while Tanjiro, Zenitsu, Teruko, and Shoichi begin searching for the missing child.
SKILLS
- Demon Traits - Many demons exhibit a ruthless instinct to attack and devour humans and have forgotten most of their memories of human life. Demons retain their personalities, except that they often transform into a distorted, dark version of themselves.
- Immortality - Demons embody eternal life and can live for generations, if they are incredibly strong, sometimes even longer. They cannot die by conventional methods, but can be killed by sunlight or one of the Demon Slayer Corps' unique Nichirin blades.
- Growth Potential - A single demon's power depends almost entirely on the number of humans they have killed, and they can also become stronger by consuming additional blood from Muzan, which explains how the Twelve Demon Moons gained their immense strength. However, some demons have a restriction on how much they can use to become stronger, and may not be comfortable with a larger amount of Muzan's blood.
- Regeneration - Possesses the enhanced abilities of a demon, including strength, regeneration, and a weakness to sunlight.
- Tongue Manipulation - Chasing Zenitsu throughout the house, he uses a long, powerful tongue to attack his targets. He is also fast and accurate, capable of cutting a pot in half.
