Synopsis

The second season of Senran Kagura, Senran Kagura Shinovi Master: Tokyo Youma-hen*, follows a group of talented young shinobi who spend their days in the shadows, hunting and killing, employed by politicians and influential corporations. Even among these shinobi, there are those who are evil and those who are good, but will the virtuous among them be able to stand up to those who lurk in the shadows?

Background

Originally released as a video game by Marvelous in 2011, Senran Kagura is a fighting series centered around shinobi teams that has been adapted into manga and anime. The first anime adaptation aired from January 6, 2013 to March 24, 2013, and was followed by an OVA on March 24, 2015.

A follow-up second season was announced in August 2017 titled Senran Kagura Shinovi Master: Tokyo Youma-hen . The series is directed by Tetsuya Yanagisawa and written by Yukinori Kitajima with music by Noisycroak and animation produced by TNK. The series will begin airing on October 13, 2018. The opening theme song is "SCARLET MASTER" by Sayaka Sasaki and the ending theme song is "Junsei Erotic" by Mia REGINA.

Characters

Yumi (Voiced by: Yumi Hara)

With her icy demeanor, Yumi is a third-year student and the leader of Gessen Girls' Academy. Her fighting style is inspired by dance, and although she appears cold, she truly loves her teammates.

Murakumo (Voice of: Hisako Kanemoto)

A third-year student at Gessen Girls' Academy who wears an intimidating ogre mask. She is extremely self-conscious and uses an incredible spear and a giant cleaver as her primary weapons.

Yozakura (Voice of: Kaori Ishihara)

A second-year student at Gessen Girls' Academy, she is the eldest of 12 siblings. As a result, she is extremely adept at disciplining others and sets high standards for herself.

Shiki (Voice of: Ayano Yamamoto)

Known for her use of the gyaru language, Shiki is a first-year student at Gessen Girls' Academy. She is gifted as a shinobi, but still misses her past life of wealth and carefree living. She wields an impressive scythe.

Minorities (Voice of: Hiromi Igarashi)

Mischievous and sweet, Minori is a first-year student at Gessen Girls' Academy with a warm, childlike heart who wins over others with ease. She has strong morals and is among the elite in her class.

Asuka (Voice of: Hitomi Harada)

Although she is somewhat clumsy, Asuka is a capable shinobi and a strong student at Hanzo Academy where she works hard to keep up with Katsuragi and Ikaruga.

Ikaruga (Voice of: Asami Imai)

Despite her reclusive nature, Ikaruga slowly grew closer to her classmates at Hanzo Academy (and especially Katsuragi, though the two clashed at first).

Katsuragi (Voice of: Yu Kobayashi)

Carrying a dark past on her shoulders, Katsuragi works hard to become a strong shinobi at Hanzo Academy where she trains alongside Ikaruga.

Yagyu (Voice of: Kaori Mizuhashi)

After losing her younger sister Nozomi, Yagyu struggles to open up to others until she arrives at Hanzo Academy where she meets Hibari, who resembles Nozomi. She gradually opens up to her classmates.

Hibari (Voice of: Yuka Iguchi)

Hibari is a shinobi from Hanzo Academy and despite average beginnings and a lack of confidence, she has grown into a strong shinobi.

Miyabi (Voice of: Hiromi Hirata)

A third-year student at the Underground Hebijo Girls' Academy, Miyabi was among the elite when she first entered the academy. However, an accident during a mission caused her to lose her memory and abilities, and she has since worked to rebuild Hebijo.

Murasaki (Voice of: Sayuri Yahagi)

Dark and mysterious, Murasaki is one of Hebijo Academy's elite students, even though she doesn't attend classes. She's a truant who prefers to stay in her room with her teddy bear, Bebe-tan.

Imu (Voiced by: Chiwa Saito)

A third-year student at the underground Heijo Girls' Academy, Imu is Miyabi's best friend. She was hospitalized in the same incident as Miyabi and later retired from shinobi to devote herself to helping her friend.

Ryobi (Voiced by: Yoko Hikasa)

Ryobi is a first-year student at Hebijo Academy. She is Ryona's younger twin. Both transferred from Gessen Girls' Academy, and she uses a sniper rifle with a modified axe head for combat.

Ryona (Voiced by: MAKO.)

Ryobi's older twin sister, Ryona is a first-year student at Hebijo Academy. She is free-spirited and confident, using dance and ice skating in her battles to move smoothly.

Homura (Voice of: Eri Kitamura)

Initially a kind-hearted young shinobi, Homura was betrayed by her middle school teacher. Rejected by her family, she continued her studies at Hebijo Academy where she became one of the top students.

Yomi (Voiced by: Ai Kayano)

Growing up in poverty, Yomi hates those who live in comfort. She is a member of Homura's Scarlet Squad, composed of former Hebijo shinobi.

Hiking (Voiced by: Ryoko Shiraishi)

Raised in an orphanage, Hikage struggles to understand and express her emotions. She eventually runs away from the orphanage and joins a gang until she is eventually recruited into Hebijo Academy's elite class.

Mirai (Voiced by: Saori Goto)

Unable to trust others, Mirai suffered cruel bullying as a young girl and struggled to make friends until she managed to connect with others at Hebijo Academy where she joined the elite class.

Haruka (Voice of: Megumi Toyoguchi)

Much loved by her mother, Haruka grew up with a deep contempt for her father, who had a never-ending string of affairs. Suzune taught her how to make puppets and used them to force her father to reveal himself, which led to her being enrolled in the elite class of Hebijo Academy.

Kagura (Voice of: Yuki Matsuoka)

An extremely powerful and eternal being who periodically reincarnates to eradicate the Yoma. She relies on her guardian Naraku for protection as she is unable to defend herself.

Naraku (Voice of: Yuuko Kaida)

A member of the Goshin clan, Naraku is tasked with assisting the awakened Kagua in her quest to eradicate Yoma. She is a priestess and guardian of the Reincarnation Sphere.

Renka (Voice of: Minami Tsuda)

The eldest of three sisters (herself, Hanabi, and Kafuru), Renka is a shinobi among the festival's overseers.

Hanabi (Voiced by: Sora Tokui)

The middle child of three sisters (the others being Renka and Kafuru), Hanabi is bright and cheerful with incredible energy and a direct way of speaking.

Kafuru (Voice of: Shiori Izawa)

The youngest of three sisters (the others being Renka and Hanabi), Kafuru is intelligent, argumentative, and prone to violence. She can also be quite violent.

Fubuki (Voiced by: Kana Asumi)

Dreamy and mysterious, Fubuki is a member of the Shinobi Masters.

Gekkou (Voice of: Riko Kohara)

Gekkou is a second-year student at Gessen Girls' Academy and a member of the Shinobi Masters.

Senko (Voice of: Akane Fujita)

Senko is the third member of the Shinobi Masters and a second-year student at Gessen Girls' Academy.
