Background and origins

Wang Zhi, also known as the Black Samurai in One Piece, was originally a samurai from Wano Country in the New World. However, he turned to crime and committed extremely heinous acts, most of which revolved around violence and murder.

As a result, he was exiled from his home country in One Piece, after which he turned to bounty hunting and piracy, either as a means of survival or because he genuinely enjoyed it—perhaps a bit of both. Wang Zhi's reputation grew considerably in a fairly short period after this point.

Wang Zhi became particularly infamous after attacking numerous marine bases and kingdoms in One Piece. According to One Piece Fanon, Wang Zhi received his first bounty of 147,000,000 Beli just a few months after his exile from the New World, and his bounty was later revealed to be 214,000,000 Beli.

Is Wang Zhi really Ochoku?

Most One Piece fans believe that Wang Zhi and Ochoku are actually one in the same person. According to the One Piece Wiki, Ochoku's official English name is actually Wang Zhi, as seen below.

It's difficult to fully confirm this because both characters have very mysterious backgrounds. But there's no evidence to suggest they're not the same person, and there's definitely some crossover between Wang Zhi and Ochoku.

Both Wang Zhi and Ochoku are listed as participants in the Rocky Port Incident, and both characters fought Blackbeard. Additionally, Ochoku was the leader of Hachinosu before Blackbeard became the island's current ruler.

One Piece fan reports indicate that Blackbeard became the ruler after defeating the previous ruler, Wang Zhi, as well as the previous ruler, Ochoku. All these similarities make it highly likely that Wang Zhi and Ochoku are the same person.

Was Wang Zhi part of the Rock Pirates?

What is Wang Zhi's connection with the Rocky Port incident?

The Rocky Port incident is definitely at the top of the "conspiracy theory" list for many One Piece fans. Many dedicated One Piece fans have come up with countless theories in an attempt to clarify what exactly happened, but nothing solid has emerged yet.

However, One Piece Chapter 1059 brought new and surprising evidence highlighting Wang Zhi's connection to the Rocky Harbor incident. It is revealed that both Koby and Blackbeard were involved in the incident and that Koby actually helped Blackbeard defeat Wang Zhi.

This ultimately gave Blackbeard power and control over Fullalead Island (also known as Pirate Island). But it doesn't end there: Law is said to be the mastermind of the entire Rocky Port incident, as he is believed to have been pulling the strings behind the scenes.

Law could have influenced Blackbeard and Wang Zhi to enter the battle, for starters—his status as a Shichibukai during the time skip in One Piece may have given him the means to do so. That being said, there's still a lot of mystery surrounding why he did such a thing.
