Who is the man marked by flames in One Piece?
Who is the man scarred by flames in One Piece? (And what is his significance?)

One Piece Chapter 1056 has finally arrived, and the long-awaited sequel to Oda's epic manga is finally moving the plot forward. This was a pretty typical One Piece chapter with a lot of new information to take in, including a reference to the "Burnt Man" (conversely translated as "Burnt Scar Man" or a scar shaped like fire). In this article, we'll tell you who the Burnt Man could be and why he's so important.
The true identity of the Flame-Scarred Man has not been revealed. Based on his name, fans have speculated that it could be a reference to Admiral Kuzan, Sabo, Luffy's father, Monkey D. Dragon, the mad monk Urouge, or even Blackbeard. It could also be a reference to a new character who has yet to appear, possibly someone who knows more about the One Piece treasure.
In the rest of this article, we'll tell you everything we know about the Flame-Scarred Man character in the One Piece franchise. You'll discover the possible identity of his character, as well as how the recently released Chapter 1056 sets up the plot that will lead to the revelation of the Flame-Scarred Man's identity.
Who is the man marked by flames in One Piece?
Mentioned in One Piece manga chapter 1056, the Man Marked by Flames has yet to be identified. In this section, we'll introduce you to some possible candidates who might be suitable for the position:
Admiral Kuzan

Kuzan was a Navy admiral, his nickname "Aokiji" meaning "Blue Pheasant." Calm by nature and possessing the Frozen Fruit, he is able to control ice. He represents the Navy under the motto of sloppy justice. Grand Admiral Sengoku wanted him as his successor, but there was support for Sakazuki (Akainu) within the ranks of the World Government.
Admiral Kuzan might make sense since he has a large scar created by the flames and a very specific relationship with the Marines, but since he's been around for a while and already has a nickname, it wouldn't really make sense for that nickname to be simply a plot device. We'd be disappointed.
New

Sabo is the second-oldest member of the Revolutionary Army behind Monkey D. Dragon. He is the spiritual brother of Monkey D. Luffy and Portgas D. Ace, and the adopted brother of Sterry, the current king of the Goa Kingdom. Sabo was born into a noble family but decided to run away and settle in Gray Terminal. He became Ace and Luffy's brother by making a toast and exchanging their sake cups, also known as the "Brotherhood Cup."
He was believed to have died after being shot by a celestial dragon. He actually lost his memory as a result of the shock, joined the revolutionary army, and only regained his memory ten years later when Ace died.
Of all the known characters, Sabo makes the most sense. He has a scar that fits the description, he has a fire-focused Devil Fruit, he has a brilliant backstory that has changed our perception of him over the years, and his larger role in the story has already been foreshadowed with his name as the assassin of Nefertari Cobra. This would also be a great plot point due to Sabo's connection to Luffy. Whether he is the man scarred by the flames remains to be seen, but of all the known names on this list, Sabo's makes the most sense. He also hasn't been introduced much, so it would make sense for other characters to use a different name for him.
Blackbeard

Marshall D. Teach, aka Blackbeard, is an admiral of the Blackbeard Gang, a former member of the 2nd Division of the Whitebeard Pirates, and, like Luffy, aims to become the Pirate King. In terms of his actions and especially his values, Blackbeard is often the exact opposite of Luffy.
Blackbeard could be related to the myth of One Piece and the late pirate king Xebec, but he doesn't really make sense in that regard. Some fans have also suggested his name, but we don't think it's a likely candidate. It simply wouldn't make much sense, and he doesn't even have a scar that would fit the description.
Urouge

A member of the Supernovae, Urouge is a powerful pirate, having crossed and reached half of the Grand Line. He proved powerful enough to face another Supernova as fast and agile as Killer in a fight (without increasing his muscle mass and therefore his strength) interrupted by X. Drake. In his muscular form, he is capable of injuring a Pacifista.
Kizaru, however, managed to defeat him without much difficulty thanks to his power. During the timeskip, he managed to defeat Charlotte Snack, one of the Big Mom Pirates' four Sweet Commanders, whose bounty reached 600,000,000 Berries, a testament to his strength. Although he was later defeated by Charlotte Cracker, Urouge also managed to survive and escape.
Uruoge has flame tattoos on his arms, meaning he is literally a man marked by flames. However, he is a well-known character and doesn't seem like a likely candidate since we don't see him playing such a significant role in the story all of a sudden.
Monkey D. Dragon

Monkey D. Dragon is the father of Luffy and the son of Garp. As the leader of the revolutionaries, he is considered the World Government's most wanted enemy and has thus become a target of attacks and assassinations by the World Government. The left side of his face is adorned with a tattoo. Dragon appears to be able to control the weather. His goal is to overthrow the World Government.
The scars on Dragon's face have made him a candidate in the eyes of some fans. Him being the man scarred by the flames wouldn't be too surreal, but we still don't think it's too likely. It would make for a great subplot because of his relationship with Luffy, but we don't really see Oda's story going in that direction, regardless of everything else.
New unnamed character
In our opinion, this seems like the most likely outcome. It wouldn't make sense for Kidd to call a well-known character in the series by this nickname, nor would it make sense from a plot perspective. It's likely that this is a new character who knows something about One Piece, perhaps another surviving member of Roger's crew or even a survivor of the infamous Ohara incident, and that he will be a vital step in the search for the treasure.
What is the importance of the Flame-Scarred Man in One Piece?
At the moment, we don't know much about the Flame-Scarred Man. He was mentioned indirectly by Killer and directly by Kidd as the alliance prepared to leave Wano Country. After Law gave Killer a copy of the Lode Poneglyph, Killer mentioned that they should do something about "that guy," to which Kidd—somewhat surprised—asked if he really wanted to go after the Flame-Scarred Man even though they had no leads. Luffy then intervened and said he didn't know who the Flame-Scarred Man was, and the scene cut to Yamato before we found out. He seems to be an important step in obtaining the One Piece treasure, but more will be revealed in future chapters.
