One Piece: Just What Is Momonosuke Doing With Onigashima?!

Kozuki Momonosuke in One Piece is the current shogun of Wano Country and patriarch of the Kozuki family, being the son of the last daimyo of the Kuri region, Kozuki Oden. He was born twenty-eight years before the present day, but traveled twenty years into the future when he was still eight years old. He became an important character in the Wano County arc due to his actions and bravery in the face of Kaidou, but also because he saved the Flower Capital by, well... moving the floating island away from Onigashima, so that when it fell, it fell next to the Flower Capital and not on it. This article will focus on those events.

The recently aired episodes of One Piece showed us how Momonosuke, in his dragon form, was moving the floating island of Onigashima away from the Flower Capital. Onigashima had fallen because Kaido was losing his powers, so Momonosuke did everything he could to move it so that it wouldn't destroy the Flower Capital; he was able to do this after producing a Flame Cloud that was stronger than Kaido's.

In this article, we'll tell you how Kozuki Momonosuke managed to save the Flower Capital of Wano Country in Eiichiro Oda's One Piece. We'll tell you a bit about Onigashima and the events surrounding Momonosuke's removal from this falling island. We'll expand on the above answer and provide you with all the details you need. Also, if you're not fully up-to-date with the story, we must warn you that there will be spoilers in this article.

Onigashima floated thanks to Kaido's powers

Onigashima is part of the plateau on which Wano Country sits, located near its southwestern edge and surrounded by powerful whirlpools. The island is very mountainous, making it only possible to land on a small coastline inland. The mountain range surrounding the island is connected to a large, skull-shaped landmass in the center. The island itself has a harbor where ships can dock. Notable structures seen in the harbor include a giant katana that pierces the ground, water jets that form oni faces, and a huge wagasa filled with paper lanterns.

Two komagitsune sculptures surround the entrance to the bay, resembling a staircase leading from the harbor into the central mountain, which is shaped like a skull. There are two ways to leave Onigashima without going around the island surrounding the skull dome: one to the east and the other to the south.

A large wisteria-fringed lake is located on the East Trail. The left-hand tower of the Skull Dome recreation area, built above the lake, is also accessible from the walkway. A large fence built between the mountains blocks the southern route. The left-hand tower of the Skull Dome is accessible via the recreation hall entrance, while the right-hand tower is accessible via the south gate.

After the assault on Onigashima, the island was moved by Kaidou using his flame clouds to place it on top of the Flower Capital as part of the New Onigashima Project. However, after Kaidou's defeat, Kozuki Momonosuke managed to stop the island using his own flame clouds, ultimately leaving the island on the outskirts of the Flower Capital.

Momonosuke saved the Flower Capital by keeping Onigashima away

As mentioned, when Kaidou took over Wano Country, he made Onigashima his base of operations while planning to restructure the land as part of his New Onigashima project. This would be done by moving Onigashima to the top of the Flower Capital, thus destroying the capital of Wano Country. By expanding the weapons factories and employing the Flower Capital's residents there, Kaidou planned to turn it into a "lawless zone" for pirates, calling it "paradise."

By transferring Onigashima Island to the Flower Capital, Wano Country would become New Onigashima, and Yamato would be its shogun, replacing Kurozumi Orochi. Kaidou and Big Mom plan to prepare for the great war to come and also intend to obtain the Ancient Weapons to destroy the World Government before finally setting out in search of the One Piece treasure.

And while the project was planned, the Ninja-Pirate-Mink-Samurai Alliance's assault hampered it, but not in the way the Alliance intended. Namely, as Luffy engaged Kaido on Onigashima, Kaido's powers began to weaken, and thus the clouds of flame holding him down also became weaker, resulting in Onigashima's descent onto the Flower Capital. In time, the island would have fallen directly onto the city and destroyed it, which was exactly what Kaido wanted, but it wasn't how he wanted it to be done. And this is where Momonosuke really comes in.

Kaido makes Onigashima fly away

Namely, while Luffy was fighting Kaido, Momonosuke, in his dragon form, learned from Yamato how he could fly, so he practiced it, and the two were in the air, observing Onigashima's descent. Realizing that Kaido's fighting is making him weaker and, therefore, the Flame Clouds are holding Onigashima in the air, Momonosuke suggests asking Luffy to stop fighting to save the Flower Capital, but Yamato then punches him because of his weakness and tells him that he should produce a Flame Cloud more powerful than Kaido's in order to control Onigashima.

At some point, Momonosuke managed to take control of Kaido's Flame Clouds, and he began to push Onigashima away from the Flower Capital, but he wasn't strong enough to do it quickly; at the same time, the flame clouds were losing power, and Onigashima was falling faster than Momonosuke could pull him back. Seeing that his effort would fail, Momonosuke thought of his late mother, who had given him enough energy to produce a powerful Flame Cloud just in time and push Onigashima away from the Flower Capital and into the nearby sea.
