One Piece: This is how Luffy got his scars

Along with Son Goku, Ash Ketchum, and probably Naruto, if there's one anime and manga character who doesn't need a detailed introduction, it's One Piece's protagonist, Monkey D. Luffy. Luffy is the leader of the Straw Hat Pirates and is one of the most recognizable brands in anime and manga, which explains his popularity. Now, in addition to being a brand name, Luffy is also visually recognizable, as his appearance is quite well-known. Although he hasn't changed much, the number of scars on his body has increased over the years, and in this article, we'll explain how Luffy got each of his scars in the series.
Luffy's appearance hasn't changed much over the years.
Luffy is a boy of average height with black eyes and black hair. He has a scar under his left eye caused when he was still a child to impress the Red Pirates. He is easily recognizable by the hat he always wears, to the point that "Straw Hat" became his nickname. Inside the hat, he also kept Ace's Vivre Card before his death. Luffy wears shorts, sandals, and a T-shirt.
At the age of seven, he was ninety-one centimeters tall and wore a white T-shirt with the words ANCHOR in blue and a red anchor. Like his male companions, Luffy almost always wears the same clothes, namely a sleeveless red shirt tied with buttons, which he usually keeps open. Sometimes, he must change his clothes to adapt to the climate of the place he is in, such as in Drum, where he wears a coat, or in the kingdom of Alabasta, where he wears light clothing due to the desert climate. During the final round of the Davy Back Fight, Luffy, on Usopp's advice, donned an afro wig and drew a flaming blue skull on his chest.
After battling Gekko Moria, he began wearing a bracelet around his left arm, a gift he received from Nami. He later discovers that it leads to Pirate John's treasure and offers it to Buggy the Clown in exchange for his help in reaching the sixth level of Impel Down.
After the time skip, Luffy has grown slightly taller and more muscular thanks to two years of intensive training. In Dressrosa, he initially disguises himself by wearing a fake white beard. Inside the bullfighting coliseum, he also wears a Viking-style helmet and a cape. In Wano Country, he temporarily disguises himself as a samurai with a red kimono with blue spots and gathers his hair into a chonmage.
And here's the story of her overall appearance, and as you can see, she hasn't changed much over the years. However, her scars have become more pronounced over the years!
How did Luffy get that scar on his face?
As for his facial scar, Luffy got it at the age of seven, that is, when he was still a child. Namely, Luffy desperately wanted to join Shanks and his crew and become a pirate, but Shanks told him that he was still too young, a child, and that there was no place for him on his crew. Luffy, being determined and stubborn, could not accept such an answer, so he set out to prove to Shanks that he was strong enough to become a pirate, even though he was a child.
So, what did Luffy do? Well, he took a knife and stabbed himself just below his left eye, creating a wound that bled profusely and eventually left a scar on his face. It was Luffy's first major scar in the series, but it wouldn't be his last.
How did Luffy get the scar on his chest?
The second scar Luffy is famous for is the large X-shaped scar he has on his chest. It's mostly hidden, as Luffy doesn't go shirtless, but it can be seen from time to time, so you deserve to know how he got it.
This happened during the Summit War at Marineford, when Luffy was fighting Akainu, who had just killed Ace. Because he saw his "brother" die at Akainu's hands, Luffy was furious and wanted to kill the admiral right then and there, but he was no match for him at the time. Jinbe stepped in to help and protect Luffy, but it wasn't enough at the time. Although Jinbe blocked Akainu's attack, the admiral was able to unleash a powerful magma attack that ripped through Jinbe's body and severely injured Luffy's chest, leaving the famous X-shaped scar on his chest.
Both were eventually saved by Crocodile, who intervened in the fight and later recovered. Still, Luffy was left with a dark and permanent reminder of his tragic encounter with Akainu, and that's the story of how Luffy got his chest scar. He's had other smaller bruises and scars over the years, but the scars on his face and chest are the most prominent, and we've told you everything you need to know about them.
