One Piece Episode 1078: Momonosuke is the new shogun of Wano Country!

Kozuki Momonosuke is the current shogun of Wano Country and patriarch of the Kozuki family, being the son of the last daimyo of the Kuri region, Kozuki Oden. He was born twenty-eight years before the present date, but traveled twenty years into the future when he was still eight years old. He became an important character in the Wano County arc thanks to his efforts, which is why One Piece fans continue to talk about him. In this article, we will discuss what happened in One Piece episode 1078, which was the conclusion of the Wano Country arc and saw Momonosuke become the new shogun of Wano Country.
Momonosuke is the son of Kozuki Oden, the former shogun of Wano Country.
Momonosuke was born twenty-six years before the story begins aboard the Moby Dick. Two years later, with his father joining the Roger Pirates, his family moved to the Oro Jackson, visiting many of the Grand Line's tourist attractions. Two years later, his mother fell ill near Wano and, on the ship's doctor's orders, was prevented from continuing the voyage. For this reason, her two sons also stayed with her, and Inuarashi and Nekomamushi also remained on her island.
The following year, Oden returned and was reunited with his family. Eighteen years before the beginning of the story, Shimotsuki Yasuie and his men went to Kuri Castle to protect Oden's family, who had left with his Nine Red Scabbards to face the enemy. However, the ten samurai were defeated and captured by Kaido's crew and sentenced to death. Orochi and Kaido executed Oden while the Beasts Pirates burned down Kuri Castle.
Kaido reached the building and struck Toki, grabbing Momonosuke by the neck and throwing him off the roof. When the emperor told him that his father was an idiot, Momonosuke replied that he was a great warrior, that one day he too would become one, and that he would rule the nation. He then burst into tears, and Kaido decided to let him die in the fire. Toki, however, told him that she would use her powers to send him and four servants twenty years into the future.
Momonosuke tearfully replied that he couldn't do it, while his mother said she was sure the Kozuki family would be resurrected by then. He begged her to go with them and bring Hiyori with him as well, but Kin'emon told him that Toki was suffering more than he was. He added that their country was a samurai country where dishonor was paid with life, and that contradicting such a determined woman was nothing but a shame.
Momonosuke replied that he was only a child, so the samurai bowed apologetically before saying that the young man had abandoned him with Oden's death. Kin'emon, in tears, asked him for the opportunity to fight, preferring to die by the sword rather than in a burning castle, begging him to grant them a place to die as warriors. Momonosuke was thus convinced and said goodbye to his mother, who was also in tears. Toki then used his abilities to send them into the future.
He would later meet the crew during the Punk Hazard Arc and also participate in the Dressrossa Arc, as well as the Zou Arc, which would make him an ally of the Straw Hat Pirates and eventually allow him to fight alongside them in Wano.
After Kaido's disappearance, Momonosuke eventually became the new shogun of Wano Country.
Later, when he reaches his home island and goes to the ruins of his father's castle, he meets Kin'emon, Kiku, Luffy, Law, Nami, Sanji, Chopper, Brook, Carrot, Shachi, and Penguin. The group then enters the ruins, where Kin'emon explains to the others that he, Momonosuke, Kanjuro, Raizo, and Kiku are actually from twenty years ago. The samurai recounts the events of the past and how the five were separated, then summarizes the situation. Counting the various groups involved, they have approximately five thousand people on their side.
The plan is simply to gather information for two weeks and then, during the night of the fire festival, attack Onigashima, where Kaido resides. Kin'emon explains that an ordinary boat will suffice to reach Onigashima since it is clearly visible from the coast of Wano Country, allowing it to go unnoticed. Meanwhile, Kiku explains that the fire festival is an event organized by the capital's inhabitants to celebrate Kaido, and in which the shogun Kurozumi Orochi is also participating.
Kin'emon also explains to the others how to find their allies, informs them of Franky and Robin's roles in the plan and those they will have to fulfill, and then uses his powers to give them disguises. He thus summons the kunoichi, who will be their guide, and reveals that the first objective will be to gather three samurai essential to their cause. Suddenly, the sky turns dark and threatening, and a gigantic dragon appears: it is Kaido, whose appearance shocks Momonosuke.
Later in the arc, he participates in Luffy's fight against Kaido, helping the Straw Hat Captain fight the Emperor; both end up in their dragon forms, making the battle even more intense. But Momonosuke was unable to help Luffy defeat Kaido and quickly left the fight to save the Flower Capital from the fall of Onigashima. While Luffy defeated Kaido with the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika and Gear 5, Momonosuke and Yamamoto worked to save the Flower Capital, and Momonosuke was finally able to use his powers to save the capital and land safely on Onigashima.
Shortly after, Yamato congratulates him, who then mentally contacts Zunesha, telling her that he thought about opening Wano's borders but decided against it, to which the elephant replies that he understands, that he will not oppose his will and that he will not doubt his decisions. Momonosuke then thanks him and senses what appears to be an earthquake: the underwater volcano off the coast of Udon erupts and the citizens panic, also noticing Onigashima's new location.
Momonosuke reaches the Flower Capital to calm them down and, after clarifying that he is not Kaido and that the latter has been defeated, he transforms back into a human: his servants emerge from the smoke, and the citizens recognize Komurasaki and Kyoshiro, who proclaims the arrival of the new shogun of Wano Country. The inhabitants then prepare video cameras to broadcast the unusual event throughout the country, whose inhabitants witness the fulfillment of what Toki had predicted twenty years earlier.
The Kozuki family servants and his sister bow before him, who delivers a speech in which he introduces himself as Oden's son, noting that twenty years have passed since his death and thanking the townspeople for their long resistance. He then explains that they will once again be able to trade and drink, that water will be free, that factories will no longer pollute, and that there will be no more slaves.
He adds that Orochi and Kaido's crimes are in the past, revealing that the Ninja-Pirate-Mink-Samurai Alliance attacked Onigashima, defeating the Beasts Pirates and emphasizing that they will never forget the debt owed to those who made it possible. He then asks Kin'emon for a suggestion on what he should say, who tells him to try to lie as best he can, then he remembers when Luffy asked him if there could still be something he fears.
He then shouts that his name means "unrivaled" and declares that he will make even the most barren lands a paradise, so he asks the townspeople to lend him their strength, revealing that he has traveled twenty years into the future to save them. He then claims to be the rightful shogun, believing he will keep his mother's promise and follow in his father's footsteps. As Hiyori hugs him, all the citizens celebrate. He later reveals to the townspeople that a new festival is imminent.
