  • Distribution of articles:
  • Nami is one of the protagonists of One Piece and one of the most famous characters in the series. She was also one of the first members of Luffy's Straw Hat Pirates.
  • Nami once left the crew and seemingly betrayed them, but it wasn't sincere, as was proven when Luffy and his friends saved her from the fearsome Arlong. She has been a loyal member of the crew ever since.
  • The ending of One Piece is unknown, but it seems unlikely that Eiichiro Oda would simply kill Nami this way.

Nami is a loyal member of the Straw Hat Pirates and is unlikely to leave or betray them.

Since Nami is still very much alive, all we can do here to properly explain her role in the story is tell you her story! So, here we go.

Newborn Nami is an orphan who was adopted along with her half-sister Nojiko by Bell-mère, a naval lieutenant. The three went to live in the village of Coco, on the Conomi Islands in the East Blue. But eight years later, the village is targeted by the fish-man pirate Arlong, who occupies it and his crew, imposing enormous taxes on the inhabitants: Bell-mère, unable to pay for herself and the two little girls, is killed by the pirate in exchange for the girls' lives.

Nami was later kidnapped by Arlong and forced to act as a cartographer, tattooing their crew's symbol on her arm. However, the Fishman made a pact with her: if she could obtain 100 million berries, she could buy back the village. From that day on, Nami began stealing other pirates' treasures to meet the necessary quota. Years later, while attempting to steal Buggy's crew's treasures, she encountered Monkey D. Luffy and Roronoa Zoro.

With them, she neutralizes the pirates by stealing their treasure. Later, after defeating Kuro's gang and meeting the sniper Usopp, she betrays them by stealing their ship and heading to her village, having almost succeeded in obtaining the sum demanded by Arlong. However, the money is confiscated by the corrupt naval officer Nezumi on Arlong's behalf. An enraged Nami attempts to erase Arlong's tattoo with a knife, and when Luffy, Zoro, Usopp, and Sanji arrive, she asks for their help. The four neutralize Arlong's crew and Nezumi himself, who places a bounty on Luffy's head.

Nami then joins the four, forming the Straw Hat Pirates. With them, she enters the Grand Line, where they meet the princess of Alabasta, Nefertari Vivi. She reveals to them that her kingdom has been targeted by a member of the Seven Warlords of the Sea, Mr. Crocodile, asking them for help. They agree and, departing for Alabasta, they land in Little Garden, where they confront the member of the Baroque Works, Mr. 3. Here, Nami is bitten by an insect, contracting a serious illness, and, to cure her, the crew heads to Drum, where they meet Doctor Tony Tony Chopper, who joins them.

In Alabasta, Nami confronts and defeats Miss Doublefinger, while Luffy neutralizes Crocodile. Once on Skypiea, Nami helps Luffy confront Enel, the island's despotic tyrant. Back at sea, they escape from Foxy and Admiral Aokiji, but in Water Seven, Nico Robin, an archaeologist who joined them in Alabasta, is kidnapped by CP9: the crew, accompanied by the cyborg Franky, heads to Enel's Lobby to rescue her. There, Nami neutralizes Kalifa.

After setting sail again, they arrive at Thriller Bark, where they meet the skeleton musician Brook and where Absalom kidnaps Nami to force her to marry him: she frees herself, faces him and defeats him.

After the fighting, she meets Laura, a pirate who gives her a Vivre Card from her mother as a thank you for her help. Upon arriving at the Sabaody Archipelago, the crew is attacked by Admiral Kizaru and Bartholomew Kuma, who send the crew members flying across the world. Nami lands on Weatheria, an island in the sky home to various scholars dedicated to the study of meteorology.

Here, the young girl, after receiving the captain's message about their upcoming meeting, begins training and improving her navigation skills. After two years, the crew reunites in Sabaody; together, they set sail for Fish-Man Island, where Nami receives Jinbe's apologies for what happened to her village.

Once they enter the New World, they land at Punk Hazard, where Luffy forms a pact with the pirate Trafalgar Law to eliminate Emperor Kaido; here, Nami helps the children imprisoned there escape, then entrusts them to the care of the sailor Tashigi, and the samurai Kin'emon to find the little Momonosuke. Arriving at Dressrosa, a kingdom ruled by Donquixote Doflamingo, a member of the fleet, Sanji, Nami, Brook, and Chopper are attacked by Empress Big Mom's ship, forcing them to temporarily separate from the crew.

The four head to Zou, where they encounter the Mink Tribe. There, Sanji is kidnapped by Capone Bege, a member of Big Mom's Pirates, to force him to marry Charlotte Pudding, the Empress's daughter, to stipulate an alliance between the Charlotte family and the Vinsmokes. Nami, along with Luffy, Brook, Chopper, and the minks Pedro and Carrot, head to Tottoland to rescue Sanji. There, they team up with Capone Bege to bring down the Empress, also discovering that Laura's mother is Big Mom and knowing about her twin sister, Chiffon.

But their plan doesn't work, and they are forced to flee. Nami, meanwhile, manages to make an ally of Zeus, one of Big Mom's friends, and takes him with her. Once in Wano, the crew reunites and discovers the truth about Kin'emon and his companions, learning the story of Kozuki Oden, Momonosuke's father.

Here, Nami helps prepare the offensive against Kaido, aided by the kunoichi Shinobu. During the assault on Onigashima, she briefly confronts Ulti, managing to defeat her thanks to the help of Zeus and the intervention of Big Mom, who has meanwhile arrived in Wano; she later undertakes to protect O-Tama, who has joined the group during the assault, while he transforms the Beasts Pirates into allies with his powers.

Eventually, Kaido and Big Mom were defeated, while the rest of the crew headed to Egghead, where they are currently fighting Kizaru. And with this, you can see that Nami is very much alive and a very loyal member of the crew.

Will Nami survive to the end?

Even though One Piece is certainly heading towards its end, there's still a lot to do. Now, Nami is very much alive and well and going on an adventure with the Straw Hats, heading towards Laugh Tale and the One Piece treasure. Now, we don't know what Oda has planned for his main characters at this point in the story, but considering how his main characters have survived for over 1,000 chapters, it seems unlikely that he'll start killing them off, one by one, just like that.

This doesn't seem like a likely outcome knowing Oda, and honestly, we don't think it will happen like that. But that doesn't guarantee the safety of almost all the crew members. However, we don't think Nami is a likely candidate in this regard, considering how she's been around since the very beginning and how important her story is.

At this point in time and from this perspective, Nami's death wouldn't make much sense, and there's really nothing concrete to indicate that she's dead, so we don't think she's a likely candidate in that regard.
