Muichiro vs Mitsuri: who is stronger in Demon Slayer?
Demon Slayer season 3 adapts the Swordsmith Village arc from the manga. Two of the stars of this arc are Mist, and Love Hashira.
They both play a central role in defeating the Five, Hantengu and Gyokko and saving the blacksmith village from the demons. But if we compare their strengths, who comes out stronger? Here is our response to the Muichiro vs Mitsuri debate.

Character Profiles:
I. Muichiro Tokito
Our first competitor is Muichiro Tokito, the current Mist Hashira. Muichiro is a 14-year-old prodigy who mastered Mist Breathing in a very short time and rose to the position of Hashira in just two months of training.
He is a descendant of the demon Kokushibo, aka Upper Moon One.
Michikatsu mastered and was one of the first demon slayers. Muichiro's connection to Kokushibo explains his natural talent in breathing techniques and his superior skills in swordsmanship.
Breathing Technique
Muichiro's breathing style is Mist Breathing. He mastered it in a very short time and became proficient enough to create an entirely new form of it. Previously, Mist Breathing only had six forms, and Muichiro created a seventh form which becomes one of the attacks that ultimately results in Kokushibo's defeat.
The seven forms of mist breathing are:
- First Form: Low Clouds, Distant Haze
- Second Form: Eight-Layered Mist
- Third Form: Scattering Mist Splash
- Fourth Form: Shifting Flow Slash
- Fifth Form: Sea of Clouds and Haze
- Sixth Form: Lunar Dispersing Mist
- Seventh Form: Obscuring Clouds
Abilities
- Muichiro is a very capable swordsman. His sword technique even impresses Kokushibo. He wears loose clothing to hide his movements and gain an advantage over his opponents.
- Another extraordinary ability of Muichiro is sensing supernatural aura. He can differentiate the aura of humans and demons from afar.
- Muichiro is the first Hashira to unlock his Demon Slayer Mark, and the second Demon Slayer to do so.
- During his fight against Kokushibo, he turns red and gains the ability to see the Transparent World as .
Weaknesses
- Although Muichiro has enhanced strength and speed as Hashira, neither trait is extraordinary in comparison to the other Hashira and Upper Moons.
- He doesn't have overwhelming strength like and Mitsuru Kanroji.
- In terms of speed, he is only the 8th fastest runner among the nine Hashira.
II. Mitsuri Kanroji
The Love Hashira is Mitsuri Kanroji , the most sympathetic and kind Hashira. She trained under the Flame Hashira and created her own breathing style.
Although she appears gentle and feminine, Mitsuri is a fearsome demon slayer who displays incredible flexibility and physical prowess while wielding her whip-like blade.
She is one of only two female Hashira after the death of the former Flower Hashira, Kanae Kocho.
Breathing Technique
Mitsuri is the master of the Breath of Love, a unique breathing style created to harness her superhuman flexibility. She initially trained in flame breathing under Rengoku. Eventually, she derived her Breath of Love, combining her flexibility and the unique shape of her Nichirin blade.
The Breath of Love includes six forms, all created by Mitsuri. The forms are as follows:
- First Form: Thrills of First Love
- Second Form: Love Affections
- Third Form: Rain of Feline Love
- Fourth Form
- Fifth Form: Oscillating Love, Wild Claws
- Sixth Form: Cat-Legged Loving Winds
Abilities
- As Hashira, Mitsuri possesses enhanced strength and durability. She is one of the physically strongest Hashira.
- Mitsuri's extreme flexibility is at the heart of her breathing style and her fearsomeness.
- Although Mitsuri is the slowest Hashira runner, her attacks are the fastest, even surpassing those of , the fastest runner.
- Mitsuri unlocks her Demon Slayer Mark during the Battle of Swordsmith Village while fighting Zohakuten , one of the clones of the fourth Upper Moon Hantengu. She is one of the first demon slayers to accomplish this.
Weakness
- Mitsuri's breathing style is less likely to work on stronger enemies like Muzan and Kokushibo.
Muichiro vs. Mitsuri: pre-marked in the Swordsmith Village arc
Muichiro and Mitsuri are two major characters in the Swordsmith Village arc. Mitsuri fights alongside Tanjiro, and Genya against Hantengu to ultimately defeat him.
Elsewhere, Muichiro single-handedly destroys Gyokko, the Upper Moon Five. During this fight, Muichiro also unlocks his Demon Slayer Mark.
Before either gets their mark, Muichiro and Mitsuru are quite close in terms of power. However, given the versatility and precision of his abilities, Muichiro has the advantage over Mitsuru.
Indeed, even though all of Mitsuru's Love Breathing attacks are powerful, Mist Breathing simply has more destructive power than the first.
Additionally, Muichiro is a better swordsman than Mitsuru and adapts quickly to combat. This is why Mist Hashira wins this round of Muichiro against Mitsuru.
Muichiro vs. Mitsuri: Obliterated in the Sunrise Countdown Arc
While Muichiro and Mitsuru both unlock their Demon Slayer marks in the Swordsmith Village Arc, Mist Hashira is definitely the one who came out stronger. They both get their strength, speed, durability, and accuracy enhanced by the mark, but Muichiro ends up with new abilities that Mitsuru doesn't get.
For example, Muichiro's Nichirin Blade turns red after the mark. The Red Blade plays a vital role in their battle against Kokushibo as it hindered Kokushibo's regeneration. Unlike this, Mitsuri's whip-like blade remains the same.
Muichiro also gains the ability to see Transparent World after the mark as Tanjiro. The Transparent World allows him to see his opponent's blood flow, muscles, and joint movements, making it easier to attack effectively. Again, Mitsuri gets no such ability.
The Muichiro vs Mitsuri debate after their ratings can also be decided by their opponent. While Muichiro, along with Gyomei and Genya fight against Kokushibo, the Upper Moon One and the second strongest demon, Mitsuri teams up to fight against Nakime, the Biwa demon who became Upper Moon Four after Gyokko's elimination and Hantengu.
Thus, Muichiro once again gains the upper hand in the hypothetical Muichiro vs. Mitsuri fight.
