Makoto Niijima Persona 5 - Figures

Makoto Niijima is one of the fan-favorite romantic confidants in Persona 5. Fans love his demure and proper appearance, contrasting with his Mad Max survival-style Phantom Thief design. Makoto's codename "Queen" fits his leadership personality, but his strong features don't detract from his gentle and natural beauty. This beauty is on full display in the library of figures featuring Makoto, even when he's wearing his full battle outfit. Three Makoto Niijima figures that showcase both his strength and beauty are "Nendoroid Persona 5 Makoto Niijima Phantom Thief Ver.", "Persona 5 Makoto Niijima Phantom Thief Ver. with Johanna 1/8 Scale Figure," and "Persona 5: Dancing in Starlight Makoto Niijima 1/7 Scale Figure."

Nendoroid Persona 5 Makoto Niijima Phantom Thief Ver. Figure

Makoto, aka Queen, still looks like a cool post-apocalyptic raider in chibi form. This figure from Good Smile Company shows Makoto in her Phantom Thief disguise. The spikes on her shoulders and knees look as painfully sharp as those on her knuckle dusters. For long-range combat, Makoto has her pistol at the ready. While Makoto isn't the biggest fan of her mask, the figure comes with two versions of it: one to wear and one to hold. The figure includes an accessory so the mask can be worn over one of her three facial expressions. Makoto can remain calm and collected, enraged in battle, or grinning in victory. The combinations of mask, expression, and accessories allow Queen to perform a number of intense scenes and attack poses.

Persona 5 Makoto Niijima Phantom Thief Ver. with Johanna 1/8 Scale Figure

This bold Amakuni figure depicts Makoto and his Persona Johanna perched and ready for battle. Makoto wears his thief outfit, but without his mask to reveal his slyly smiling expression. The layered vest buckles and folds realistically like sturdy leather around his torso. Her long black scarf flutters in the wind behind her as she looks sheepishly over her shoulder. She brandishes a pistol in her left hand, completing her confident pose. Makoto's Persona and high-tech motorcycle, Johanna, is equally detailed. Johanna's sleek silhouette curves around partially visible pipes, bolts, and vents to remind fans of her impressive machinery. Her face peeks through the translucent blue plastic above her front wheel. Her eyes are closed, signaling that Johanna has not yet awakened for battle.

Persona 5: Dancing in Starlight 1/7 Scale Makoto Niijima Figure

Another Amakuni-scale figure has been released, but this time it's Makoto who gets to dance. The design is inspired by Makoto's appearance in the Dancing in Starlight game. She wears a punk-inspired outfit with red lace-up boots and a safety pin-embellished T-shirt alongside her Shujin uniform skirt. The figure comes with a studded belt with a chain, knee-high socks with garters, and a choker necklace adorned with a silver lock. She stands on one leg, the other bent at the knee, as she arches her back, pushing her chest out in front of her. Her arm is raised above her head, and her hair sways in time with her dancing. Like the rest of the Dancing in Starlight crew, Makoto wears a red bandana, with hers tied around her arm.

About Makoto Niijima

Makoto Niijima is the student body president of Shujin Academy by day and the rebellious Phantom Thief by night. Initially, Makoto lacks a sense of self and instead keeps her head down and does as she is told. As a result, she is an excellent student, embodying obedience and perfectionism. However, feeling powerless after failing to do anything to stop Kamoshida, she turns her attention to uncovering the Phantom Thieves. Instead of revealing their identities, Makoto enlists the thieves to stop crime boss Kaneshiro from extorting students in Shibuya. Here, she awakens her Persona and joins the Phantom Thieves with the vow of being more honest with herself. Makoto is incredibly serious and sometimes bossy, but kind despite her explosive temper.

Other important characters in Persona 5

Ann Tamaki is the first female Phantom Thief to join the gang as they take over their first palace. At first, Ann is withdrawn due to her appearance, which leads to her being objectified or looked down upon. By supporting her friend Shiho and defeating Kamoshida, Ann begins to reach out. She becomes more open and friendly, revealing her kind and compassionate nature. Ann is initially hostile toward Makoto for endangering the Phantom Thieves, but they eventually become close friends.

Ryuuji Sakamoto is the first character, outside of the protagonist, to awaken a Persona. When the protagonist accidentally stumbles into the Metaverse, Ryuuji is pulled along with him. Upon seeing Kamoshida in his palace, Ryuuji grows increasingly disgusted by the abusive teacher. After becoming a Phantom Thief, Ryuuji throws himself wholeheartedly into the cause, determined to stop selfish adults from ruining the world for others. Ryuuji is loud, energetic, and a stereotypical "problem child." He often clashes with Makoto, who chastises him for his behavior.
