List of Evangelion Movie Characters
There are several characters who are noticeably different from their counterparts in *Neon Genesis Evangelion or are unique to the Rebuild of Evangelion films. The following list is an example of these characters:
Illustrious Mari Makinami
Illustrious Mari Makinami : (Voiced by Maaya Sakamoto (JPN) and Trina Nishimura (ENG)) Mari is anEvangelion Pilot around the same age as Shinji . She has reddish-brown hair pulled back into two ponytails. She also wears red-rimmed glasses. Describing her as an Eva fanatic may be accurate, as she knows a great deal about their inner workings—so much so that she can activate a mode some members of NERV didn't even know existed. When she arrives in Japan, she literally crashes into Shinji as she parachutes down from the sky. She remarks that he smells like LCL. From then on, she refers to Shinji as a "puppy." While most pilots often dislike piloting an Evangelion unit, Mari seems to derive joy from it. She often provides long-range support for Asuka on various missions.
Sakura Suzuhara
Sakura Suzuhara: (Voiced by Miyuki Sawashiro (JPN) and Felecia Angelle (ENG)) Tōji's younger sister. Although she is mentioned in the original series , she is never named or shown on-screen. She is also injured in an Angel battle, but is shown briefly for the first time in Evangelion 2.0, You Can't (Advance) . In Evangelion 3.0, You Can't Do It Again , she is the first person to greet Shinji after he wakes up for the first time in 14 years.
Koji Takao
Koji Takao: (voiced by Akio Otsuka (JPN) and Greg Dulcie (ENG)) A bald, bearded man who serves as an engineer for AAA Wunder. He believes that, even though her strategies can be incredibly risky and nearly impossible, Misato is a pretty interesting captain.
Sumire Nagara
Sumire Nagara: (voiced by Sayaka Ohara (JPN) and Krishna Smitha (ENG)) She is given the role of maneuvering the AAA Wunder. She is likely quite inexperienced, as when Misato orders the ship to fly, Sumire mentions that she has little confidence in her skills.
Hideki Tama
Hideki Tama: (Voiced by Anri Katsu (JPN) and Aaron Roberts (ENG)) A reserved but serious man in charge of engineering.
Midori Kitakami
Midori Kitakami: (Voiced by Mariya Ise (JPN) and Tia Ballard) A pink-haired woman who is in charge of monitoring equipment.
Misato Katsuragi
Misato Katsuragi : (Voiced by Kotono Mitsuishi (JPN) and Allison Keith (ENG)): Misato is introduced as a lieutenant colonel rather than a captain in 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone . In 3.0 You Can't Redo , she becomes the captain of WILLE's ship, the AAA Wunder. The fun-loving and goofy side of her personality is gone, leaving behind an incredibly serious and dark character. That said, she still has a soft spot for Shinji , as she had the opportunity to kill him and prevent Fourth Impact from happening, but she couldn't bring herself to pull the trigger on Shinji's DSS collar when she had the chance.
Ritsuko Akagi
Ritsuko Akagi : (Voiced by Yuriko Yamaguchi (JPN) and Colleen Clinkenbeard): Her role in the first two Rebuild films is essentially the same as in Neon Genesis Evangelion , but in 3.0 You Can't Remake None , she is given the title of Vice-Captain of the AAA Wunder. Her hair is also cut very short compared to the first two films.
Shikinami by Asuka Langley
Asuka Langley's Shikinami : Her character is very similar to her original counterpart, though her last name is changed from Soryu to Shikinami. She has also lost interest in Ryoji Kaji and no longer likes dolls. After 2.0 You Can't Progress , she has an eyepatch covering her left eye, which can be seen glowing at times. Additionally, despite 3.0 You Can't Redo taking place 14 years after the previous film, Asuka appears almost unblemished. She says this is because of "Eva's curse," but it is unclear what exactly this refers to.
Kaworu Nagisa
Kaworu Nagisa : (Voiced by Akira Ishida (JPN) and Jerry Jewell (ENG) While Kaworu's Neon Genesis Evangelion appearance was only for one episode, Kaworu is introduced at the end of 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone. This gives him a larger role throughout the Rebuild series. At the end of 2.0 You Cannot Progress , Kaworu throws the Spear of Cassius at the awakened Eva-01s , preventing the total catastrophe of Third Impact from occurring. His most prominent role, however, takes place in 3.0 You Cannot Redo , where he becomes the only person Shinji trusts. Kaworu even takes Shinji's DSS collar and puts it around his own neck, which eventually results in his death as Fourth Impact begins.
Rei Ayanami
Rei's character in the new Rebuild films is more mysterious than in the original anime. Rebuild 3.0 She is part of the new NERV organization, and her formerly white plugsuit is now black. She has no features or memories of the previous version of Rei in the anime or films. Evangelion fans have nicknamed her "Rei Q" or "Kuronami," and the significance of her character is still unknown.
