Gogeta - Dragon Ball

Gogeta is a fusion character that is created when both Goku and Vegeta successfully perform the Metamoran fusion dance. He is considered one of the most powerful characters in the entire Dragon Ball series. Although he was largely considered a non-canon character for many years (having only appeared in Fusion Revival and Dragon Ball GT ), Gogeta made a canonical appearance in the recent Dragon Ball Super: Broly film.

Character and personality

Although Gogeta is a fusion of Goku and Vegeta, both of their voices can be heard individually. As such, Gogeta is voiced by either Masako Nozawa and Ryō Horikawa (in Japanese) or Sean Schemmel and Christopher Sabat (in English). The English dub of Blue Water is an exception and only has one voice actor for Gogeta, however, and that person is Jonathan Love.

As a fusion of Goku and Vegeta, it is unsurprising that Gogeta shares many similarities with both individual characters. Gogeta's hair is very similar to Vegeta's, as he has hair that naturally stands up, though it is generally bushier and more spread out than usual. Gogeta also has Vegeta's mohawk, but it is much less pronounced. His physique appears to be largely based on Goku, as he is taller than Vegeta. In terms of attire, Gogeta wears the traditional Metamoran vest worn by all fusion characters, though its details vary in each appearance. In Fusion Reborn, the vest is black and orange, while it is black and yellow in other appearances. Gogeta also wears an armband on each arm and a blue obi belt used to hold up loose-fitting white pants.

Gogeta's personality can vary depending on his mood and current situation. When he's relaxed and trying to crack a joke, he acts much more like the lighthearted and easygoing Goku, though his Vegeta side often shines through during fights, as he often enjoys toying with his enemies. Much like his Potara-fused counterpart, Vegeta Gogeta is incredibly confident and arrogant. That said, he isn't as prone to taunting his enemies and is generally more straightforward. Once he deems an opponent a true threat, he will mercilessly destroy them, even if they've given up—a trait that likely comes from Vegeta. However, after Broly was pulled away from the fight, Gogeta didn't chase after him, even though he could have with Goku's Instant Transmission. Furthermore, he even stopped Frieza from taking down Cheelai and Lemo, which is much more in line with what Goku would do.

Transformations, abilities and techniques

As a fusion of Goku and Vegeta, Gogeta is supposed to have access to all the transformations and techniques that the individual characters have. Gogeta is actually seen using Super Saiyan in Fusion Reborn and Dragon Ball Super: Broly, but in the latter film, he also uses Super Saiyan Blue . In Dragon Ball GT , he is only seen using Super Saiyan 4 , a transformation unique to the series. Additionally, Gogeta can transform into Super Saiyan 2 , Super Saiyan 3 , and a Golden Great Ape in Dragon Ball Heroes .

In terms of techniques and abilities, two of Gogeta's most powerful attacks are the Big Bang Kamehameha and the Stardust Breaker. The Big Bang Kamehameha is a combination of Goku's Kamehameha and Vegeta's Big Bang attack and was first introduced in Dragon Ball GT. It is an incredibly powerful energy blast that also happens to have various iterations that appear in various video games like Dragon Ball Heroes, Dragon Ball Fusions, and Dragon Ball Z: Budokai 3. The Stardust Breaker, on the other hand, was first used in the Fusion Revival film and later reappears in Dragon Ball Super: Broly. Gogeta creates a rainbow-colored energy sphere and crushes it in his hand and throws the dust at his opponent or he simply throws the sphere itself. In any case, the attack does an incredible amount of damage and also has the ability to overcome any harm from whoever the target hits, as seen with Janemba.

Apparitions

Gogeta first appeared near the end of Fusion Reborn to defeat the amalgam of evil known as Janemba. The fusion character returned again in Dragon Ball GT to attempt to defeat Omega Shenron . Here, Gogeta is shown strictly in his Super Saiyan 4 form, as Goku has the body of a child until he transforms into his Super Saiyan 4 form himself. Here, Gogeta can easily overwhelm his opponent, but his arrogance gets the better of him, as he toys with Omega Shenron instead of simply defeating him. As such, Gogeta defuses before the battle is won.

Gogeta's most recent appearance was in the Dragon Ball Super: Broly film, where Goku and Vegeta must fuse to defeat the Legendary Super Saiyan Broly. Although they fail the fusion dance twice, they succeed on their third attempt and finally stand a chance against the rampaging behemoth. Here, Gogeta is seen transforming into his Super Saiyan Blue form for the first time.

If Goku and Vegeta fail to perform the fusion dance correctly, the resulting failed fusion is often referred to as Veku. Like many other failed fusions, there are two varieties of Veku: a fat version and a skinny version. Both versions are poorly suited for combat, but, at least in the case of the fat Veku, he seems capable of taking a surprising amount of damage.

Many Dragon Ball video games also feature Gogeta as a playable character. Here are some examples:
