Gintama - Figures

Gintama remains one of the most famous and best-selling series of all time. Its enduring reputation stems from the extravagant and offbeat humor of the dialogue and visuals. The manga itself ran for nearly 16 years, setting a standard for comedy manga and anime to follow. With a large cast of characters and numerous short-lived gimmicks, the series spawned numerous large-scale statues as well as smaller chibi figures and accessories. The four best figures available in the Gintama franchise are "GEM Takasugi Shinsuke Tsuya Ver. Gintama", "Petit Chara Land Gintama A Fortune Cat On A Desk", "GEM Gintama Souko Okita Girl Ver." and "Gintama DXF Our Hero Gintoki".

Takasugi Shinsuke Tsuya Ver. Gintama Figure (GEM)

Takasugi Shinsuke is one of the most dangerous men in the Gintama universe. This relaxed, seated, and reclining figure displays his smug confidence as he smokes a pipe, delicately sculpted in his left hand. His dark purple kimono hangs from his body in realistic detail, exposing the softly worked lines of his physique. The accompanying black haori can be removed but features a clean, expertly painted gold design. His signature butterfly motif is painted in exquisite detail on his kimono and mirrored by the carvings on his stool.

Gintama Figurine A lucky cat on a desk (Petit Chara Land)

Departing from traditional figures, the Petit Chara Land series depicts Gintama Gintoki Sakata and Toshiro Hijikata as Maneki-Neko. Maneki-Neko, or lucky cats, are small figurines meant to bring good fortune, with the type depending on the cat's color and pose. The two-inch chibi Gintoki represents the white cat, said to bring happiness. His sign, which reads "sugar content," brings a burst of sugary joy to any desk or study space. Toshiro represents the black cat, which banishes evil. His sign reads "vacation," the ultimate departure from evil. Gintoki's smirk and Toshiro's frown complement each other's chibi designs and their black and white color scheme. Fans praise the MegaHouse quality of these small figures, as they are sturdy and well-painted despite the budget price.

Male or female, Okita's sadistic demeanor is reflected in this figure's cool expression paired with a curled whip. The dynamic pose features her ponytail, with wispy sculpted details, rippling behind her in the momentum. History of the Gintama series

Gintama follows the story of Gintoki Sakata, an independent and veteran samurai, in an alternate Edo period. In this world, Earth has been invaded by aliens called "Amanto." Despite the Japanese samurai fighting to defend humanity, the shogun makes an unequal contract with the aliens. The swords are confiscated, the aliens are allowed to invade the country, and the bakufu becomes a puppet government. While Gintoki takes on odd jobs to earn a living, he teams up with teenager Shinpachi Shimura and the alien Kagura to create a company called "Yorozuya" ("We Do Everything"). The three encounter Yakuza, government officials, aliens, and numerous antagonists in their noble quest: to pay the monthly rent.

Development of the Gintama series

Hideaki Sorachi, a young manga artist, began writing a Shinsengumi-themed manga at the request of his publisher. The story failed to gain traction, but Sorachi rewrote the pitch with science fiction elements more to his liking. Hijikata Toshijo, a character based on Hijikata Toshizo, was the intended protagonist of the series. Instead, he and the rest of the Shinsengumi cast were introduced as supporting characters later in the story. The manga began serialization in Shonen Jump in late 2003 and ran until the summer of 2019. It has sold over 55 million volumes, making it one of the best-selling manga of all time. An anime adaptation of over 360 episodes aired from 2006 to 2018, produced by Sunrise Studios until episode 265 and then Bandai Namco Pictures until the end. Gintama was hailed as a "one-of-a-kind" comedy by critics and, in 2020, is considered one of the best comedy anime of all time.
