Fate Zero Caster
Caster/Lancer (Gilles de Rais "Bluebeard") - Destiny
Who was Gilles de Rais “Bluebeard”?
Gilles de Rais was a knight, lord, and leader of the French army who fought alongside Joan of Arc. He was later convicted for confessing to serially killing children. It is said that the French folk tale "Bluebeard" may have been inspired by him, although "Bluebeard" was a serial killer of his wives, not his children.
General Urobuchi came up with the idea of using Gilles de Rais because he, like many others, believed Saber's identity to be Joan of Arc. He had already considered teasing fans with another woman he had identified as Joan, and Gilles de Rais fit perfectly into this delicate ploy.
Appearance
Caster: Caster is tall with shaggy shoulder-length hair that he brushes back and away from his face. He has very large fish-like eyes that often stare in opposite directions and usually a scowl unless he's doing something heinous. His skin appears sickly, pale, and lifeless. He has no eyebrows. He is muscular and very tall, fitting for a former knight. He wears a long black robe with a collar that resembles an oval inner tube covered in fabric that is stripped with a snake and then trimmed with what looks like narrow petals from a poisonous plant. His fingers are long and his hands bony.
Saber: Not yet having fallen into Caster's depravity, he wears the white, turquoise, and silver armor of the Hundred Years' War. His eyes and hair are dark black. He has a fit, athletic build. His expression is serious but not cruel. His shoulder-length hair falls to either side of his face. His armor changes with each Ascension. The armor of his 2nd Ascension varies in detail, giving him fang-like ornaments, while the armor has almost disappeared (covering only one side of his body) by his 3rd Ascension. He has gone mad again, and it shows in his appearance. His eyes do not yet protrude from his skull.
Personality:
Roulette: His alignment is Chaotic Evil. He greatly enjoys torturing and murdering, especially young children. His wish is to use the Holy Grail to resurrect Joan of Arc, whom he loved. He does not believe that God punishes the wicked, but that humans do it to each other. He has a "good" relationship with his master Ryuunosuke Uryuu due to their shared interest in killing innocents and Ryuunosuke's infatuation with his level of cruelty, which notably gives his victims a moment of hope before their demise. Fate/Zero Blu-ray illustrator Takashi Takeuchi even joked that the two should already be married. He even goes so far as to praise him for his thoughts on God as the author of the world who would enjoy being entertained by a saint as much as a cunning villain, which fuels his desire to murder more people and more cruelly.
Saber: His alignment is Lawful Good. His love was Joan of Arc, whose existence helped him believe in God in such a dark world. He also loved art, on which he spent much of his money. His heart was broken when Joan of Arc was executed. He was ultimately put to death not because of his murderous ways, but because he owned too much land and it was feared he would sell it to an enemy nation.
SKILLS
Roulette: He wasn't a very skilled mage and was one of the weakest minions in the series, if not the weakest. He drew most of his power from his Noble Phantasm, the Spellbook of Prelati. However, it was capable of acting as an incredible source of mana and a spellcasting guide that allowed him to summon an incredible number of creatures for opposing minions to fight against, as well as a nearly unbeatable creature. He is also capable of keeping creatures in a state of damage resistance and crafting magical items such as the Mind Control Bracelet he made for Ryuunosuke.
Saber: He also possesses Prelati's Spellbook as a Noble Phantasm, but also the Saints' War Order. It is an anti-unit (Self) type with one target. It is also known as "Saints' War Order: Rally upon the Roar of the Sacred Banner." Because it is the most significant part of his past—fighting alongside Joan of Arc with his Eternal Luminosity—it also increases his stats. His skills are Military Tactics, Golden Rule, and Mad Enhancement. He can also take a STR boost from Prelati's Inspiration, but at the cost of his memories.
