What is a Funko Pop?

Funko Pop is an American company founded in 1998 that specializes in the manufacture of small vinyl figures (approximately 10 cm tall) representing some of the most famous characters from around the world. In the United States, Funko Pop has created figures for famous series such as Iron Man, Superman, and Hulk. When it comes to Japanese anime, Funko Pop has created series for big names such as One Piece, Dragon Ball, and My Hero Academia.

The unique feature of Funko Pop figures is their deformed design. The characters have a very large head with large eyes and a very small figure, which gives them a cute and fun look.

With the growing popularity of comic book movies, TV series, and other media, the Funko Pop line has grown dramatically, with many new figures being released recently. Funko Pop figures are so popular that they now have a line featuring celebrities, pop stars, artists, and even real-life characters from films like Harry Potter.

Funko Pop Evangelion figures

Funko Pop recently announced that it will be producing brand new Evangelion Funko Pops this year, featuring some of the franchise's most famous characters, including protagonist Shinji Akari, Rei Ayanami, Asuka Langley Soryu, and the much-loved mecha unit, Evangelion Unit 01, piloted by Shinji.

Funko Pop recently released the first look at these new figures on its official Twitter account, showing the three Evangelion pilots working tirelessly with NERV to save the world from Angel invasions and other dangers.

The image also featured a "Supersized Pop," which is a 6-inch Funko Pop representation of the popular Evangelion Unit 01.

Funko Pop states on its website: "Adventure into the futuristic fortified city of Tokyo-3 with your favorite heroes, including a 6-inch Pop! Eva Unit 01, Pop! Shinji Okari, Pop! Rei Ayanami and Pop! Asuka Soryu Langley."

These new figures will join the existing Evangelion Funko Pops, which also include a special edition of Asuka in a school uniform, titled "Summer Convention Asuka."

Funko Pop Shinji Akari

The Shinji Akari Funko Pop figure stands 10 cm tall and comes in a window display box. Shinji wears his signature blue and light blue jumpsuit with head sensors. A familiar image from the series. Shinji also stands in his signature "wrist grabbing" pose, a habit Shinji had in the series when he was nervous or anxious about his actions and decisions.

Funko Pop Rei Ayanami

The blue-haired Rei Ayanami Funko Pop is also standard-sized and comes in a similar window box, just like Pop! Shinji. She wears her signature white jumpsuit with head sensors. Rei is posed with her hands behind her back, perfectly representing her shy and reserved personality.

Funko Pop Asuka Soryu Langley

The Funko Pop Asuka Soryu Langley figure sports her red plugsuit, the same color as her Evangelion Unit 02, with electric head sensors in her reddish-brown hair. Asuka poses with her hands on her hips, a representation of the self-confidence that is regularly seen in many scenes from the Evangelion anime.

Funko Pop Mecha Eva Unit 01

In addition to the 3 main characters from the anime series, Shinji Ikari's Evangelion unit, Eva Unit-01, is being transformed into a Funko Pop. Among the new Evangelion Funko Pops line, Evangelion Unit 01 is the only Funko Pop to be offered in the 6" model. A special increased size that would drive Evangelion fans crazy.

The purple and green figure features Eva Unit 01's leg and arm armor in a combat stance. The robot's jet-shaped face has white eyes and red bars.

Funko Pop Asuka Summer Collection

Before the design of the four new Funko Pop Evangelion figures that are expected to be released in 2020, Funko Pop has already released an Evangelion figure of Asuka Langley Soryu. A limited edition called "Summer Collection".

The Funko Pop featured Asuka in her Tokyo-3 school uniform which stood 3 3/4" tall and included her iconic red head sensors.
