Evangelion Fifth Angel Ramiel
Ramiel is a Child of Adam and appears in Episodes 5 and 6 and is referred to as the Fifth Angel, named after the "Angel of Thunder".
Physical appearance
This angel is radically different in appearance from the previous two angels. Sachiel is vaguely humanoid in shape and Shamshel has an insect-like body. Ramiel appears as a floating blue octahedron. This angel's surface is highly reflective, giving it an almost mirror-like sheen at times. While hovering, Ramiel emits a noise that resembles a cross between the ping of a submarine's sonar and a singing human voice. Although all angels are considered living beings, Ramiel almost resembles an otherworldly machine. Although he is able to move through the air, he is completely immobile while doing so. His attacks are also impeccably precise. He is also able to predict enemy movements and plan accordingly. Rebuild In the films, Ramiel is able to transform into a wide variety of geometric shapes and patterns when attacking. These different patterns may represent how Ramiel will attack, although this is uncertain.
Remarkable abilities
-
Beam Attack: One of Ramiel's most notable aspects is his devastating beam. It only takes a few moments to charge and is capable of instantly vaporizing any matter it comes into contact with. Evangelion Units Beams do not disintegrate easily but can be quickly rendered useless in seconds if left unprotected. It is unknown how long Ramiel is able to withstand this beam attack, but it is possible that he could do so indefinitely.
-
Pinpoint Accuracy: As if sheer destructive force weren't enough, Ramiel can accurately strike an enemy with his beam under circumstances that would be difficult to achieve by human standards, even with assistance. As long as an enemy is within a certain distance of the Angel, Ramiel will automatically target and hit their target without fail. Obstacles and moving targets do not affect Ramiel's accuracy, as his beam can pass through almost any type of matter instantly. It is almost as if Ramiel can sense an enemy's presence and track their movements in real-time. When Evangelion Unit 01 is sent to intercept Ramiel for the first time, NERV's sensors detect Ramiel beginning to charge a beam attack while the unit is still underground and fires it from the back of a building just as the unit breaks through the surface.
-
Drill: Since Ramiel cannot be stopped by close combat, Ramiel can move freely around Tokyo-3 and does so until he arrives above the location of NERV Headquarters. At this point, a red drill extends from the bottom of the Angel and begins drilling into the ground. While this drill is quite effective at penetrating NERV HQ's many layers of armor and defenses, it still takes Ramiel nearly 10 hours to penetrate the facility. Ramiel is the first Angel to successfully infiltrate NERV, though it is not entirely certain why Ramiel is attempting to enter the facility. In the Rebuild film, Evangelion 1.0: You Are (Not) Alone , this drill is simply an extension of Ramiel's original body that extends downward and begins to burrow into the ground.
Battle and defeat
Ramiel is discovered floating in the sky and [Evangelion Unit 01[(/otapedia/anime/neon_genesis_evangelion/unit_01) is sent to destroy it. As little was known about this angel, NERV and Shinji The NERV members were unprepared for Ramiel's attack. Powerful energy measurements are detected from the enemy as Evangelion Unit 01 is deployed to the surface and, before the last safety locks are released to allow the unit's movement, Ramiel fires a beam attack that hits him directly in the chest. NERV panics and quickly tries to recall Shinji. As Shinji and the unit descend back into the ground, Ramiel's beam can be seen tracking the unit's movements until it is out of range. While Evangelion Unit 01 is repaired and Shinji recovers, Misato conducts several tests to try to learn more about Ramiel's attack pattern. She discovers that whenever the Angel detects a hostile enemy, it automatically targets and destroys it as long as it is within a specific range. Ramiel, completely free of enemies, begins digging toward NERV HQ.
After some calculations, NERV discovers that it has approximately 10 hours to defeat the Angel before it enters the facility. Since close-range attacks would result in a catastrophic defeat, Misato places her hopes in Shinji and creates a plan that uses an experimental weapon called a positron rifle, which, in theory, would be enough to pierce Ramiel's AT field and destroy his core. However, to accomplish this feat, all of the country's electricity would have to be channeled to the weapon. That night, preparations are made to ready the positron rifle, and Shinji takes up his position while piloting Unit 01. As Shinji fires, Ramiel fires back, altering the trajectory of both beams, resulting in a near miss. Ramiel continues to fire but is blocked by Roi andUnit 00 wielding a shield. This gives Shinji just enough time to fire a second shot that hits Ramiel's core, resulting in the Angel's death.
