Attack on Titan Anime Season 1 Summary

The story of Attack on Titan takes place in a world where humans are an endangered species. For over a hundred years, they have lived in fear of the Titans , a mysterious and violent race of human-like giants who roam outside the walls, looking for people to devour. At this point, there is no information about what these creatures are or where they come from. So, in order to protect the few human populations from the Titans' attacks, three layers of very high stone walls have been built around the cities. Life inside the walls is quite peaceful and quiet, but the series' protagonist, Eren Jaeger , wants to experience adventures and feel the freedom offered to the Survey Corps , special warriors who fight the Titans beyond the walls.

Eren Jaeger lives in Shiganshina, along with his best friend Armin Arlert and Mikasa Ackerman , his adopted sister, whom his family recently took in. Together, they live a relatively peaceful life until one day, Titans invade their city with the help of a massive Titan that breaks through the city's first wall, Wall Maria. Amidst the violence and confusion, Eren witnesses his mother being brutally devoured by a Titan during the attack. Filled with anger and pain, the young boy vows revenge against the Titans.

Desperate, poor, and orphaned, Eren, Armin, and Mikasa decide to join the military and fight for humanity. Over the course of five years of training, Eren becomes the most passionate and aggressive soldier, while Armin becomes a master strategist and Mikasa the strongest and tallest cadet in the program. Along with other trainees, they enter the military's 104th Training Division , where they graduate and begin taking on various roles to prepare for the future attack of another Titan.
However, shortly after their graduation, the Titans, led again by the Colossal Titan , return to launch another offensive attack.

At the very beginning of the battle, and in a desperate attempt to save Armin's life, Eren is dismembered and devoured by a Titan. But suddenly, in his final moments, he realizes he can become a Titan himself by shedding his own blood in a moment of rage. Eren takes the opportunity to use his Titan powers to kill other Titans and help the other cadets fight them, before returning to his human form. Despite the great confusion this event causes, he manages to survive the army's interrogations and offers his power as a tool for the good of humanity.

Later in the story, the members of the 104th Training Division discover that Annie Leonhart , a young cadet on the team, can also transform into a Titan and ends up trying to attack people using her power.

This first season ends with great uncertainty. It has become impossible to ignore the fact that humans can transform into Titans and that there are infiltrators in the military who are against humans. The final shot of the season shows a section of the wall collapsing, revealing the face of a Titan inside.
