Aldebaran (much more commonly known as Al) is Priscilla Barielle 's personal knight and assistant. He is always seen wearing a black Vollachian helmet in order to hide the injuries he sustained to his face. His left arm is also severed from the elbow down. Other than that, his attire is fairly casual in the form of a green vest and orange cape (and nothing else) over his upper torso, ragged pants, and bound feet in sandals. He also wears a belt with pockets and carries his sword in its scabbard around his lower back. Al is a very boisterous guy but also someone with a calm head and seems to roll with the punches.
History
Al (much like Subaru ) is originally from our world's Japan. He was summoned approximately 18 years earlier. During his travels, he visited the gladiator island Ginunihive where he lost his left arm but also learned to fight. He spent nearly 10 years as a gladiator before joining a fifty-man tournament to choose Priscilla's (then known as Prisca) knight. Although Al failed to even place in the top four of the tournament, Priscilla decided to choose him as her knight anyway and he has remained by her side ever since.
He remained by her side even during the threat of death and the subsequent faked death. As Priscilla moved from husband to husband over the next few years, he continued to be her loyal servant. Eventually, Priscilla took control of House Barielle and became a royal candidate for the throne. Around the formalization ceremony, he met Subaru and immediately showed kinship and understanding for the boy's struggles.
According to the author, Al is expected to appear in Arc 7 and is involved in one of the three mysteries of Re:Zero.
Relationships
Priscilla Barielle - Al is Priscilla's loyal knight and servant, even though the two have different views on their relationship. He doesn't consider himself a knight and is well aware of Priscilla's low opinion of him as a person. However, he is loyal to her and sees himself as her guardian, often taking steps to anticipate her potential outbursts of anger. He freely offers her advice, although she doesn't always welcome it.
Unknown Archbishop of Sin - It is likely that Al knew an Archbishop of Sin as he told Chapel When they met, he found that she was "considerably different from the Sin he knew." In fact, he may have known about the Witch Cult or at least some aspects of it, as he had warned everyone to keep his true name from an Archbishop of Gluttony.
Aries - Ram and Al share some sort of past although it hasn't been fully elaborated at this point and he has expressed his displeasure at the mention of her.
Subaru - Al immediately had a good impression of Subaru as if he instinctively understood many of Subaru's problems. During Subaru's initial interactions with Priscilla, Al would always be at least supportive of the boy, though his loyalty meant he always gave in to Priscilla's whims. In a timeline where Subaru failed to enlist Priscilla's help during Arc 3 , Al actually consoled the boy and offered some measure of encouragement, even though he wasn't actually in a position to offer any assistance.
SKILLS
Unknown Retry Ability - Al possesses a seemingly unique but unknown ability that allows him to relive a certain amount of time over and over again. This ability operates within a limited area that Al calls his territory, and he considers using this ability a gamble. Others within the area of effect tend to ignore its effect, though some opponents have noticed its return.
Magic User - Al is capable of using Earth magic and has specifically demonstrated the defensive Dona magic as well as the offensive La Dona None
Al has admitted that he relies on his cunning to outwit people and surprise them in order to win fights. He wields a sword called the Blue Dragon Sword . Additionally, his unique-looking helmet is actually a replica of a helmet related to the Gladiator King None.
