Plot

Chise decided to succumb to her fate at the hands of her new owner if only to have a roof over her head. With this grim determination, she is chained and taken to her new home.

On her way, Chise hears mysterious men in robes gossiping about how a buyer like that managed to snag a rare Sleigh Beggy. Not understanding anything they were saying, Chise decides to ignore them and follows her buyer into a study room.

It is there that the man reveals himself to be a mage named Elias Ainsworth. With his magic, Elias transports them to a magical world that resembles rural England. Full of magical beings and fantastical events, Chise is fascinated by this world as she accepts her new role as the ancient mage's apprentice and wife.

In season 2, Chise enrolls in an elite wizarding school to learn a way to remove her curse and cure herself of her self-sacrificial tendencies. Elias disagrees with her decision but ultimately accepts her wish. At the new school, everyone is impressed by Chise because they have never seen a mage do magic before.

But soon Chise realizes that there is more going on at school and that she must carefully choose who to trust and befriend.

Chise Hatori is the protagonist of The Ancient Magus' Bride. She is a teenager who had a horrible childhood. Unbeknownst to her, Chise is a Seigh Beggy, meaning she is a magical being capable of absorbing and generating almost unlimited magic.
