Top 18 Best Dumpster Battle Players
Top 18 Best Dumpster Battle Players (Haikyuu, 2024)
Fans are now looking forward to a return with a new film showcasing the long-awaited match between Karasuno and Nekoma at Nationals. Nekoma has always been Karasuno's biggest rival, with the history of their rivalry dating back to the coaches. This fatal match is also called the Dumpster Battle where the crows fight the cats. Let's see who are the best Dumpster Battle players.
The film, titled "Haikyuu!!: Battle of the Landfill," picks up where the end of season 4 left off, with Karasuno defeating Inarizaki and then facing Nekoma. Since we will be discussing the events of the Dumpster Battle, this article will be full of spoilers. Now let's see how each player performs in this important match:
Top 18 Best Dumpster Battle Players
18) Tamahiko Teshiro
Team | Nekoma High |
Height | 68" |
Position | Server/Setter Pinch |
Hair color | Gray |
Eye colour | Brown |
While each player gives their best in their most anticipated match, Nekoma's backup setter, Tamahiko Teshiro, has much less time to show off his skills than his team members. Teshiro is put in the match as a pinch server and stuns everyone by performing an overhead serve.
Despite this, he doesn't stay in the match much longer as Asahi soon cuts his streak. Teshiro may not have done much in the match but since it's his first match, he can be forgiven.
17) Koshi Sugawara
Team | Karasuno High School |
Height | 174.6 cm |
Position | Server/Setter Pinch |
Hair color | Light gray |
Eye colour | Hazel brown |
Koshi Sugawara, beloved by everyone, is a third-year student and Karasuno's backup setter. But since Kageyama reigns as the team's main setter, Sugawara is frequently used as a backup server. Unlike most other Pinch servers, Sugawara does not have any special services. However, he makes up for it with the precision of his services which easily break the opposing formation.
In the Dumpster Battle, Sugawara serves the same purpose. But unlike some other matches where his inclusion in the match provides a vital touch, he doesn't have many flashy moments in the Karasuno vs. Nekoma match.
16) So Inuoka
Team | Nekoma High |
Height | 187cm |
Position | Middle blocker |
Hair color | Brown |
Eye colour | Brown |
Since their first training match, some players from both teams have reunited with their individual rivals from the opposing team. While Kenma is Hinata's main opponent, Nekoma's redhead's first rival is her opponent So Inuoka.
Inuoka is no longer part of Nekoma's starting lineup, with Lev taking his place. However, he replaces Kai in the second and third sets of the Dumpster Battle where he manages to block a few spikes from Hinata.
14) Tadashi Yamaguchi
Team | Karasuno High School |
Height | 180cm |
Position | Pinch the server |
Hair color | Greenish brown |
Eye colour | amber |
One of the first four years of the Karasuno team, Tadashi Yamaguchi, is the only one not in the starting lineup. However, that doesn't mean he doesn't have any contributions to the team's games. Over time, he has mastered jump float serves and his serves are now one of the most effective strategies for the team.
In the dumpster battle, Yamaguchi displays the same finesse and skill in his jumping floats. His serves, coupled with Tsukishima's blocks, act as a shield and spear strategy for Karasuno.
13) Shohei Fukunaga
Team | Nekoma |
Height | 179cm |
Position | Spiker Wing |
Hair color | Black |
Eye colour | Dark gray |
It is not possible for every player on a team to stand out in every game. Some receive more attention while others receive less. Nekoma's Shohei Fukunaga is one of these less flashy players. He is consistent in his performance as one of the primary receivers and wing forward.
In the Dumpster Battle, Fukunaga is reliable as usual, helping his teammates give Nekoma's "brains" the most opportunities. But it is during this match that we measure how skilled a player Fukunaga is, even if he does not stand out much.
13) Nobuyuki Kai
Team | Nekoma High |
Height | 176.5cm |
Position | Spiker Wing |
Hair color | Black |
Eye colour | Mud brown |
The most underrated player on Nekoma's team has to be third-year winger Nobuyuki Kai. He is one of the oldest members of the team and also one of the most balanced. Kai isn't featured much in Nekoma's matches, but he constantly contributes to Nekoma's tight defense.
In the Dumpster Battle, Kai gains a lot of focus by digging many of Kageyama's powerful jump serves that are destined to be serving aces if not for Kai's expert landings. In doing so, he deprives Karasuno of a lot of points in the match.
12) Lev Haiba
Team | Nekoma High |
Height | 196cm |
Position | Middle blocker |
Hair color | Light gray |
Eye colour | Green |
The tallest player in the Dumpster Battle is Nekoma's first-year Russian middle blocker, Lev Haiba. Standing at 6'5", Lev is a cornerstone of Nekoma's defense although he is not good at digging and his attacks are also barely above average.
But what Lev has in his corner, besides his great size, is his natural athleticism. Although not on the same level as Hinata, Lev can move very quickly and adapt well to a situation. He shows his improvement the most in the Dumpster Battle, making him one of the best players in the match.
11) Daichi Sawamura
Team | Karasuno High School |
Height | 70" |
Position | Spiker Wing |
Hair color | Dark brown |
Eye colour | Dark brown |
Daichi Sawamura is Karasuno's captain and opposite hitter and has participated in all of Karasuno's matches. His main role in the team is to receive spikes and strengthen the team's defense. Even though Daichi isn't the flashiest player on the team, he is an invaluable member.
Without Daichi, Karasuno's entire defense would collapse. In the Karasuno vs Nekoma match, Daichi continues to support the team by receiving many tricky spikes and serves, and so we have to include him among the best players in the dumpster battle.
10) Ryunosuke Tanaka
Team | Karasuno High School |
Height | 70 inches |
Position | Spiker Wing |
Hair color | Shaved |
Eye colour | Blue grey |
Karasuno is known for its aggressive offensive strategy and one of the main pillars of that is second-year forward Ryuunosuke Tanaka. He is one of the team's best point scorers and a very tenacious player, known as Karasuno's other.
Tanaka found his match in Nekoma's Yamamoto in the first practice match between Karasuno and Nekoma. In the Dumpster Battle, Tanaka remains a major offensive player and faces Yamamoto who is also Nekoma's ace.
9) Taketora Yamamoto
Team | Nekoma High |
Height | 178cm |
Position | Wing Spiker (Ace) |
Hair color | Dark Brown with a Blonde Mohawk |
Eye colour | Brown |
Nekoma ace Taketora Yamamoto also gives it his all in the Nekoma vs. Karasuno match. Yamamoto is one of Nekoma's most fierce and powerful players as well as its highest point scorer. His friendship with Kenma translates very well onto the field as he and his passer are very coordinated.
Yamamoto's rivalry with Tanaka and the need to secure an official Karasuno victory results in some very good play from the winger.
8) Asahi Azumane
Team | Karasuno High School |
Height | 74 inches |
Position | Wing Spiker (Ace) |
Hair color | Brown |
Eye colour | Brown |
Aside from Hinata, the one the team can always trust to earn points is Karasuno's ace Asahi Azumane. Thanks to his strong build and size, Asahi is an excellent weapon for his passer to use. He scores regularly throughout the match and contributes to some major blocks.
But that's not all. In the Karasuno vs. Nekoma match, Asahi scores the most service aces and his serves become one of Karasuno's greatest strengths. Thus, he is undoubtedly one of the best players in the Dumpster Battle.
7) Morisuke Yaku
Team | Nekoma High |
Height | 166cm |
Position | Free |
Hair color | Sand brown |
Eye colour | Brown |
Nekoma libero Morisuke Yaku is undoubtedly their most talented player and one of the biggest contributors to their tight-knit defense. In every match he has played, Yaku has shown immense skill at digging and reacting, making him someone even a top ace like Bokuto is wary of.
Since their first practice match, Yaku has found his rival in Karasuno's libero, Nishinoya. He admires Nishinoya's impressive skills and how quickly he improves. In the dumpster battle, Yaku goes even further with crazy receptions that save Nekoma a lot of points.
6) Yu Nishinoya
Team | Karasuno High School |
Height | 160.5cm |
Position | Free |
Hair color | Black with a tuft of blonde on the front |
Eye colour | Brown |
There isn't a single player on Karasuno's team who would say their coolest player is none other than their super libero Yu Nishinoya. Also called the guardian deity of Karasuno by himself and his teammates, Nishinoya is a force to be reckoned with in every match he plays.
In the Karasuno vs. Nekoma match at Nationals, Nishinoya once again shows his worth by saving tricky spikes and receiving Kuroo's powerful jump serves. His rivalry with Yaku only pushes him further.
5) Kei Tsukishima
Team | Karasuno High School |
Height | 75" |
Position | Middle blocker |
Hair color | Blond |
Eye colour | Golden brown |
Karasuno is an aggressively offensive team but that doesn't mean their defense is weak. And the credit goes to their freshman middle blocker, Kei Tsukishima. Since the training camp in Tokyo and the match against Shiratorizawa, Tsukishima has become a marvelous player, as absorbed in the sport as his comrades.
In the Dumpster Battle, Tsukishima fights against his most dangerous opponent: the one who framed him in reading block in the first place. In an epic showdown, Tsukishima and Kuroo showcase their mastery of blocking, making it difficult for each person's team to score.
4) Tetsuro Kuroo
Team | Nekoma High |
Height | 188cm |
Position | Middle blocker |
Hair color | Black |
Eye colour | Hazelnut |
Nekoma Captain Tetsuro Kuroo is known for his terrible hairstyle and crafty nature. But that's not just what it's good for. As a middle blocker, Kuroo is one of the most important pillars of Nekoma's defense. He's a master at reading blocking and while he doesn't usually stand out much, his contribution is invaluable to the team.
However, when Nekoma faces Karasuno at the National Championships, Kuroo shows why he is a force to be reckoned with on the court. Not only does he excel at blocking, but he also scores a lot of points with his powerful jump serves and even manages to give Tsukishima some advice in between. He is undoubtedly considered one of the best Dumpster Battle players.
3) Shoyo Hinata
Team | Karasuno High School |
Height | 64" |
Position | Middle blocker |
Hair color | Orange |
Eye colour | Brown |
When it comes to flashy players, no one steals the show as brilliantly as Karasuno's diminutive middle blocker, Shoyo Hinata. Using her natural athleticism as a weapon, Hinata is a player her opponents must also watch out for.
The dumpster battle is the culmination of many rivalries, but the biggest has to be the one between Hinata and Kenma. Hinata's promise to give Kenma a match that will make the setter say it was fun finally came true at the Nationals.
As usual, Hinata scores a lot of points for his team despite being exhausted and being targeted specifically by Nekoma. When Kenma uses Hinata's athleticism against him and prevents him from flying, Hinata perseveres and flies away again, solidifying his position as one of the best players in the Dumpster Battle.
2) Kenma Kozume
Team | Nekoma High |
Height | 170cm |
Position | Sets |
Hair color | Blonde with dark roots |
Eye colour | Golden |
Nekoma is a team that uses all of their players to get the ball safely and correctly into their "brains" in order to score points and the brains of Nekoma is their setter Kenma Kozume. An extremely intelligent player, Kenma beats everyone at strategizing and contributes greatly to Nekoma's strength.
Although Kenma is good at strategizing, he is not the type to move much during matches, forcing his teammates to pass the ball to him as well as possible. But in Dumpster Battle, Kenma shows his true potential when he gets really excited in a match and reaches his peak by systematically limiting the movements of Hinata and the other Karasuno players.
1) Tobio Kageyama
Team | Karasuno High School |
Height | 72" |
Position | Sets |
Hair color | Black |
Eye colour | Dark blue |
It's usually Hinata who gets the most attention in a match or sometimes players like Tsukishima or Asahi whose moves are flashy. However, there is no doubt who Karasuno's most talented and formidable player is and it is none other than their brilliant passer Tobio Kageyama.
The problem with Kageyama is that he's so consistently good that it's barely worth mentioning. But during Karasuno's match against Nekoma in the finals, Kageyama shows why he is considered a genius and a "monster".
His partnership with Hinata reaches a new high in this match and his draw to give Hinata time to score is the highlight of the match. In addition to his superb sets, Kageyama also scares his opponents with his very intense jump serves.
With this, we conclude our ranking of the top 18 Dumpster Battle players. The Dumpster Battle is very important to Karasuno and Nekoma as it is the conclusion of the decades-old rivalry between Coach Ukai and Coach Nekomata as well as between the new players.
