Vegapunk is the world's most brilliant scientist who worked in the Special Science Group (SSG) department of the Marines. He is the mind behind many important inventions, two of the most crucial being the Seraphim and the Pacifistas.
Before joining the Marines, Vegapunk was part of the underground science group MADS, alongside Vinsmoke Judge, Caesar Clown, Queen, and quite possibly Miss Buckingham Stussy. In the group, while his teammates worked on weapons of mass destruction, Vegapunk had a more peaceful vision in mind. His ultimate goal in life is to provide the world with infinite energy.
As the story progresses, it becomes clear that Vegapunk is a very connected man and knows several important characters in the series. His ties to Professor Clover led him to visit after its destruction, where he read books about Elbaf.
Vegapunk was born on the island of Karakuri, famous for its high technology. During the battle on the Sabaody Archipelago, Kuma sent Franky to this island where he learned carpentry and high-tech science.
Always a tech savvy and a born prodigy, Vegapunk's inventions are said to be 500 years ahead of the current technology of the One Piece world and will only improve with time. Not only science, but Vegapunk also knows the truth of the world very well, his ever-expanding bank of information making him the smartest man in the world.
Since Vegapunk knew too much about the world 800 years ago, the world government considered him dangerous. As they do whenever someone gets too close to the truth, they send CP0 to kill the man. Even one of the elders is on his way to Egghead Island to deal with the researcher.
Vegapunk: Six satellites
Due to his extremely busy schedule, the genius scientist created six clones of himself, each carrying a different personality trait than his own. These clones are called Satellites, while the main body is called . The satellites are numbered 1 to 6, Stella being 0, and are: Shaka, , Edison, Pythagoras, Atlas and York. They respectively embody good, evil, thought, wisdom, violence and greed.
Vegapunk, along with his satellites and researchers, lives on Egghead Island, which is a World Government research center. He asked to take him off the coast of Egghead Island after predicting the trouble he got himself into. He obviously agrees, which means Vegapunk and his satellites will sail on the Straw Hat Pirates at the end of this arc.
Vegapunk: Devil Fruit Powers and Abilities
Nomi Nomi no Mi: Although Vegapunk has always been a genius since his birth, his true potential is unlocked after eating the Nomi Nomi no Mi. It is a Paramecia fruit that gives him infinite memory and also makes him grow his head in unusual proportions because of this.
It is thanks to the Devil Fruit that Vegapunk can collect a large amount of information on his own and via his Satellites and can store it in his brain. Currently, his brain has grown to such an enormous size that the upper egg of Egghead Island is made up of his brain.
This egg is called Punk Records and stores every piece of the scientist's memory. The antenna on Vegapunk's head connects his mind to Punk Records.
Inventions: As the world's leading scientist, Vegapunk has contributed to numerous inventions and is the originator of much research. Some of his most crucial research must involve the mystery behind Devil Fruits, Pacifistas and Seraphim, his Satellites and cloning, among others.
Vegapunk's research into Devil Fruits and gigantification inspired his former teammate Caesar's research into children and the SMILE Devil Fruit into Punk Hazard. He also co-discovered the Lineage Factory with Vinsmoke Judge.
All of Vegapunk's Past Relationships
Although he is isolated in research on Egghead Island, Vegapunk has ties to some of the most influential people in One Piece. And after the Egghead Arc, he will gain more since he will join the Straw Hats. Before that, let's look at Vegapunk's crucial past relationships.
1) Monkey D. Dragon
Although it is still unclear how they knew each other, Vegapunk and know each other well. Dragon, younger and leader of the rebel army, asked Vegapunk to join them and help them with his inventions. But Vegapunk declined his offer and continued his employment with the Marines.
2) MADS
Vegapunk was part of an illegal research group called MADS, alongside capable scientists like Caesar Clown, Vinsmoke Judge, and Queen. However, the group was arrested and Vegapunk was spotted by the Marines and became a researcher for them.
During his time at MADS, his relationships with his fellow scientists were not particularly good since they were working on destructive weapons. Vegapunk focused on more peaceful inventions, and they made fun of him for it.
3) Stussy
In a shocking twist, he turns out to be a clone of Miss Buckingham Stussy, who is now called Bakkin. She was created by Vegapunk and has been loyal to the scientist ever since.
Stussy joined the Marines and became an agent of CP0, while working with him. When the World Government orders Vegapunk's death, Stussy shows his true allegiance and eliminates his teammates as well as Kaku.
4) Bartholomew Kuma
One of the most heartbreaking tragedies in One Piece is the dehumanization of former Shichibukai and undercover revolutionary Bartholomew Kuma.
It is widely known that his condition is caused by Vegapunk, and it is now revealed that Kuma had a good relationship with the scientist and that his condition was due to his own will. Vegapunk has preserved the man's memories out of respect and seeks to heal him.
5) Miss Buckingham Stussy (Bakkin)
Miss Buckingham Stussy, currently known as Miss Bakkin, was presumably the fifth member of MADS. She claims to be the former lover and mother of his son, Weevil. Vegapunk made a clone of her, Stussy, which further supports the theory of her being the fifth member. Bakkin also claims that Vegapunk knows the truth about Weevil's birth and that Weevil is actually Whitebeard's son.
6) Clover
The geniuses and scholars, Vegapunk and Clover, were very good friends and respected each other. Professor Clover, director of the Ohara Library and renowned archaeologist, was one of the few people to know the truth about the Void Century, earning him the wrath of the World Government. After a Buster Call demolished the entire island of Ohara, Vegapunk visited the ruined place to pay respects to his friend.
7) Saint Jaygarcia Saturn
Saint Jaygarcia Saturn is currently one of the hottest characters that has just been introduced. He is one of the Elder Five and is on his way to Egghead Island with Kizaru. When Kizaru asked him if he knew about Vegapunk, Saturn's response was positive, although he admits it was a long time ago. Although their exact connection has not yet been substantiated, it will be soon.
8) Jewelry Bonney
has a grudge against Vegapunk because she believes Vegapunk is responsible for the condition of her father, Kuma. But Vegapunk is understanding towards her and is not offended by her multiple attacks against him. Despite his hostile attitude towards him, Vegapunk tells Luffy that he wants to give him something, which turns out to be Kuma's preserved memories. He shows it to her later.
9) Sentomaru
Sentomaru once served as Vegapunk's bodyguard before becoming a Marine officer himself. He lives on Egghead Island with the scientists and controls the Pacifistas and Seraphim. Vegapunk had saved him when he was a child, and ever since then he has felt indebted to the man. His loyalty to Vegapunk is strong enough to choose the scientist over the Marines. He is informal towards the man and calls him "Old Man Punk".
10) Fujitora
Vegapunk appears to have good relations with the Navy. He told Fujitora about his new invention that could abolish the Shichibukai system, which turned out to be the Seraphim. Fujitora also very reasonably respects the scientist.
The seven bodies of Vegapunk classified by abilities
Vegapunk's true strength lies in his intelligence rather than his physical power. He and his satellites are geniuses with great mental abilities. But obviously, not all aspects of their intelligence have yet been explored. However, let's see how they rank according to their abilities before seeing the true extent of their powers.
7) York
York the Greed is Vegapunk's clone who exhibits his greed trait. She is a young woman who spends all her time sleeping or eating, so her abilities are not yet known. But considering she's a Vegapunk clone, she must be very smart.
6)Edison
Vegapunk no. 03 is Edison. He is very small, similar to , and he is a brilliant scientist. Edison embodies the “Thinker” and is the one who has the most interactions with the Seraphim. It is only by his orders that the Seraphim stop attacking Lilith and the others.
5) Pythagoras
Pythagoras is another clone of Vegapunk, number 04. He is the "Sage". The enormous robotic being also works on the Seraphim and collects data on their battles. Like the rest of the Vegapunks, he is also very familiar with all of Egghead Island.
4) Lilith
Lilith is the first Vegapunk clone we meet. She wears the number 02 and embodies “Evil”. Lilith is another brilliant researcher and has many new and interesting inventions up her sleeves. But she can be impulsive and slow to act, judging by the way she freezes when attacked by Seraphim.
3) Atlas
Atlas represents the violence of Vegapunk's personality. She wears the number 05 and looks like a huge little girl, which is in complete contrast to her aggressive and violent nature. Atlas works very well with the inventions and fights well but can't hold his own against Lucci.
2) Shaka
Shaka is Vegapunk 01 and is the “Good” one. He is the chief researcher at the SSG, like the rest of the Vegapunks, and takes care of a lot of things. He is also very knowledgeable about Vegapunk's past, indicating that he must be older than the rest of the clones. But his true abilities still remain a mystery.
1) Vegapunk
The most important and brightest of all Vegapunks is the real body. He's an old man with a huge apple head and a big tongue that always sticks out. Thanks to his Devil Fruit, his knowledge is not lacking and he is the source of countless inventions that no one can even come close to him in terms of intelligence.
And that's all about Vegapunk in One Piece. The ever-elusive character is now in the spotlight and will definitely prove to be one of the best One Piece characters in the upcoming arc. We'll have to wait for him while Oda builds the character to his full potential.
