Who is Kenjaku ?
When Kenjaku first appears in the story, he appears as the user of the special quality curse. But thanks to Jujutsu Kaisen 0, we know that the real Geto is dead and that the one who currently has his body is someone else. It wasn't until the Shibuya Incident arc that Kenjaku revealed he was the fake Geto by splitting his head open and showing his brain.
Towards the end of the arc, Choso correctly deduces that the pseudo-Geto is none other than its creator, the former curse user Kenjaku. It is also revealed that Noritoshi Kamo, the hated jujutsu wizard of the Kamo clan, was originally Kenjaku and that he was the one who created the death paintings, not Kamo.
To summarize, Kenjaku is a former curse user whose innate cursed technique allows him to transplant his brain into another body and possess it as his own while leaving his true body behind. Kenjaku lived for years using this technique and possessing many bodies.
Kenjaku Forms
Over his thousand years of life, Kenjaku has possessed the bodies of many individuals. He usually chooses to possess bodies that contain powerful cursed techniques or that serve his particular purposes. In Jujutsu Kaisen, only four bodies that Kenjaku possessed were revealed. These are:
Unknown person
Around 400 years ago, Kenjaku took over the body of an unknown person. The man must have been a curse user since Kenjaku would not possess any body that did not know how to use cursed energy. As a person, he made binding vows with many curse users during this time, including Hajime Kashimo.
Kenjaku uses these binding wishes to summon ancient curse users and jujutsu sorcerers of the present to participate in the .
Noritoshi Kamo
An infamous figure known as the most evil in the history of jujutsu, Noritoshi Kamo was a member of the elite Kamo clan. He is known for conducting unethical research on a woman capable of giving birth to human-cursed hybrid children. His research led to the creation of Cursed Womb: Death Paintings, including Choso, Kechizu and Eso.
In reality, it was not Noritoshi Kamo who conducted the experiment. Rather, it was Kenjaku who transferred his brain into Noritoshi's body and took control of it.
Kaori Itadori
One of the most shocking revelations in Jujutsu Kaisen is that he is actually the biological son of Kenjaku himself. An unspecified time before Yuji's birth, Kenjaku took possession of the body of Kaori Itadori, the wife of Jin Itadori who is Yuji's father. As Kaori, he mated with Jin and gave birth to Yuji.
It is still unclear if giving birth to Yuji was the real motive for Kenjaku's possession of Kaori's body after all. There is also no mention of Kaori being a jujutsu wizard or curse user. But given that Kenjaku possessed her body and then used his anti-gravity system against it, it can be assumed that she knew how to use cursed energy.
Suguru Geto
Kenjaku's current vessel is Special Grade Curse user Suguru Geto. After Geto was defeated by , he was likely killed by Gojo. But due to sentimentality towards his best friend, Gojo did not destroy his body or cremate it. With this, Kenjaku was able to transfer his brain to Geto's corpse and take control of it.
Making Geto a vessel was very advantageous for Kenjaku since not only did it allow him to use Geto's very powerful Cursed Technique, but he also gained a lot of information from his memories about things like Gojo and Tokyo Jujutsu High.
Kenjaku's Cursed Techniques in Jujutsu Kaisen
Innate Cursed Technique
Kenjaku's unnamed innate cursed technique allows him to transfer his brain, and with it, his consciousness, into someone else's body. The conditions for using this technique are still unknown. For example, it is not yet revealed whether the body Kenjaku possesses must be dead or whether he can use this technique on someone who cannot use cursed energy.
But what is known is that Kenjaku can use his innate curse technique only on humans and not on curses. Another condition of his cursed technique is that even after possessing a body and healing all the wounds in that body, Kenjaku must leave the horizontal scar on the face that is created during the brain transplant alone. Each of its known vessels bore the horizontal scar.
Kenjaku's innate cursed technique is incredibly useful. Not only does this allow him to live virtually forever, but it also gives him access to his ships' memories, abilities, and cursed techniques. Coupled with his hundreds of years of experience, this makes Kenjaku one of the strongest characters in Jujutsu Kaisen.
Cursed Spirit Manipulation
Suguru Geto was one of the most powerful curse users of his generation and one of only four special-level jujutsu wizards in the world. His cursed technique, Cursed Spirit Manipulation, allowed him to absorb them by exorcising them then engulfing them. After absorbing the cursed spirit, he could then add it to his collection and later summon it to use as he pleased.
After taking control of Geto's body, Kenjaku gains access to cursed spirit manipulation. Geto already had a huge collection of curses and Kenjaku expanded it. He even collected special quality curses like the smallpox deity who can even use his own.
Near the end of the Shibuya Incident arc, after being defeated and weakened by Yuji and Aoi Todo, Kenjaku absorbs the special quality curse.
Maximum: Uzumaki
Maximum: Uzumaki was Geto's and now Kenjaku's most powerful technique, and the most powerful form of cursed spirit manipulation. With this technique, Kenjaku can combine all the curses in his collection, which span thousands, into one powerful curse that resembles a whirlwind.
Uzumaki is a complex technique and is generally intended for single use by the user. Geto used it against Yuta while Kenjaku uses this technique against Mahito to absorb it and access his Idle Transfiguration.
Anti-gravity system
Kenjaku uses the anti-gravity system during his fight against Yuki Tsukumo and Choso at Tokyo Jujutsu High. This technique allows him to cancel out gravity, which can allow him to float in the air. Another use of the Anti-Gravity System is the Reversal Curse Technique, which Kenjaku uses during combat to increase the gravity around him in order to crush his opponents to the ground.
Kenjaku reveals that this technique originally belonged to Kaori Itadori and that he gained access to it after possessing her body.
Reverse Cursed Technique
The reverse cursed technique involves the user taking cursed energy and transforming it into positive energy to heal their own and someone else's bodies. This technique is quite common among cursed spirits while rare among humans. Kenjaku is one of the few curse users capable of using the reverse curse technique to heal himself.
He can also use Reverse Cursed Technique to power his Cursed Technique reversals.
Domain Expansion: Profusion of Wombs
Kenjaku's domain expansion, Womb Profusion, is one of only two domains introduced in the story that does not have a barrier. Like 's Malevolent Sanctuary, Womb Profusion is also barrierless and he can expand it as he sees fit. The only instance in Jujutsu Kaisen where Kenjaku uses his domain is during his fight against Yuki Tsukumo and Tengen.
Womb Profusion, once opened, gives birth to a totem composed of grotesque cursed spirits with protruding heads. The heads release powerful blasts at certain intervals, but the true nature of this domain expansion and the effect of Kenjaku's cursed technique on it are still unknown.
Extracted Technique: Inactive Metamorphosis
After absorbing Mahito, Kenjaku gains access to his innate Cursed Technique: Inactive Transfiguration. This technique allows him to change the shape of people's souls, including his own, and thus change their physical form. The technique can also be used on elements like barriers.
After defeating Tengen, Yuki, and Choso, Kenjaku uses Idle Transfiguration on Tengen's barrier to begin the Culling Game.
Conclusion
We have come to the conclusion of our discussion on Kenjaku and his cursed techniques in Jujutsu Kaisen. After Sukuna takes control of Sukuna's body, Kenjaku makes a binding vow with him. The terms of the binding vow are still unknown, but given Kenjaku's character, he has something nefarious in mind.
We will only know what he is planning as the story progresses. So, don't miss any chapter of the manga. You will find chapter spoilers and many interesting pieces on Jujutsu Kaisen on . Don't forget to check them out.
