Shibuya Drama Arc: How is Gojo imprisoned in the Prison Kingdom? All the details

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 is currently airing and the anime is adapting the Shibuya Incident arc. This arc is one of the best arcs in the series and features some of the biggest events that will lead to many important turning points in the story. But the most important thing that happens during this arc is the imprisonment from within the Prison Realm.

In this article, we will talk about the Prison Kingdom and how Gojo is imprisoned there. We will also discuss the consequences of Gojo's imprisonment and how it affects future incidents in the story.

Before we begin this discussion, we have to issue a spoiler alert for those who have just started the story or are not aware of the recent manga episodes and chapters. Now that that's out of the way, let's first talk about what the Prison Realm is.

What is the prison kingdom?

What is the Prison Realm?

The Prisoner Realm is a special quality cursed item that Kenjaku obtained for the sole purpose of imprisoning Gojo. It contains a barrier capable of trapping anything or anyone, even someone as strong as Gojo, in a pocket dimension. There is no way to escape the dimension from within and the only way to break someone out of the Prison Realm is to nullify the object's cursed energy.

The Prison Kingdom is the last remains of Genshin, a Buddhist monk. It appears as a small cubic box surrounded by talismans. The Prisoner Realm curse is activated when the user invents the words: "open door". Once the curse is activated, the cube opens into fleshy protrusions on four sides with a bleeding eye in the center.

Once visual contact is made with the target and the connection is established, the fleshy protrusions extend out and grab the target. Once caught, the target will no longer be able to use the cursed energy.

Certain conditions must be met for the Prison Realm to be activated. One of them is that the target must be within a 4 meter radius of the cube and the other is that the target must stay within that distance for a full minute for the curse to work.

Once the curse is activated, the user will need to chant “door closed” for the imprisonment to be complete and the prison realm to return to its cubic form.

The Prisoner Kingdom can only hold one prisoner at a time. If the prisoner commits suicide in the prison, it can be reused. Since the Prisoner Realm leads to a pocket dimension, time does not pass there. The interior is filled with skeletons and a heavy, disturbing atmosphere.

What Happens in the Shibuya Incident Arc?

Being the most powerful jujutsu sorcerer of the current era, Gojo is the greatest irrefutable obstacle in the plans of Kenjaku and his allied cursed spirits. This is why Kenjaku plans to imprison Gojo in the Prison Realm. But this will be extremely difficult because none of them will be able to last in a fight against Gojo.

Therefore, on October 31, the cursed spirits erected a barrier to trap non-cursed users in Shibuya. The plan is to use humans to slow things down and stop Gojo from opening his domain. After tiring him out enough, they then have to keep Gojo within a 4 meter radius of the Prison Realm for a full minute, which is simply impossible. But Kenjaku reassures his cursed allies that they simply need to keep Gojo in the beam for a time that is equivalent to one minute in Gojo's brain, which is less than the actual sixty seconds.

How Gojo is imprisoned in the Prison Kingdom

How Gojo Gets Imprisoned in the Prison Realm?

Gojo fights , , Choso and later while surrounded by ordinary humans. In the short time the four manage to occupy him, he kills Hanami and tears off one of Jogo's arms. It even opens its domain extension: for only 0.2 seconds, as non-cursed users can only endure its effects for that period before dying.

After killing approximately 1,000 transfigured humans in just 299 seconds, Gojo sees the Prison Realm sitting before him. Kenjaku says the incantation for the Prison Realm to activate and make eye contact between it and Gojo. That's when Kenjaku enters the scene, using his Suguru Geto appearance to shock Gojo for a few moments.

As Gojo recalls his memories with Geto and how the man was killed last year, he angrily asks the man in front of him who he really is. This is where Kenjaku finally reveals his true identity and opens Geto's skull to show his true brain form. The time it takes is enough for the Prison Realm to complete its activation and Gojo is sealed there before the door closes at Kenjaku's incantation.

Consequences

Aftermath

Even after Gojo is sealed, he demonstrates his frightening power. Although there is no way to escape the Prison Realm from within, the effect of his presence there is soon manifested when eyes similar to Gojo's appear all over the cubic shape of the Prison Realm . The cube also becomes very heavy.

As the Prisoner Kingdom needs time to seal Gojo, they cannot move the cube for a while. Kenjaku takes care to prevent the cube from falling into 's hands.

Gojo remains inside the Prison Realm for the entirety of the remainder of the Shibuya Incident Arc, the Perfect Preparation Arc, and the Slaughter Game Arc. His sealing is bad news for the entire jujutsu world. He is freed from prison at the end of the Culling Game Arc, thanks to the use of Jacob's Ladder on the Cube.

Conclusion

Imprisoning Gojo is very important to Kenjaku and his allied cursed spirits. If they hadn't, they wouldn't be able to take over Yuji's body after giving him ten fingers at once and Kenjaku wouldn't be able to continue with his Culling Game plan.
