All of Usopp's lies that come true in One Piece
All of Usopp's lies come true in One Piece
Usopp is one of the members of the Straw Hat Pirates and their resident liar. Sorry, we were talking about sniper. The long-nosed character was introduced in the Syrup Village arc of the Romance Dawn Saga and became the third member to join his journey. From the beginning, Usopp is seen as a liar with a tendency to tell stories that seem impossible. But throughout the series, most of Usopp's lies come true. Here are all of Usopp's lies that come true in One Piece.
If you are new to One Piece, you will find many spoilers in this article. So, let's issue a spoiler warning before we get to Usopp's lies coming true.
All of Usopp's lies that come true in One Piece
1) Pirates attack his village
When Usopp is introduced in Chapter 24, we see him as a young man walking around his village telling everyone that pirates are attacking his village. Much to the surprise of the new Straw Hat Pirates and ourselves, no one seems to take him seriously. Eventually we learn that there are no pirates invading, it's just Usopp telling one of his lies again.
However, midway through the arc, it becomes clear that the lie Usopp carelessly told has come true. In reality, the Black Cat Pirates have been living on the island as Kaya's guardians for years and plan to kill her now. The confirmation that Kuro and his crew are indeed on the island is the first of Usopp's lies to come true.
2) A giant goldfish whose excretions are as big as an island
The sea is a mysterious place where many strange beings live. In One Piece, we have seen many strange animals living in the sea, like huge sea kings that resemble different land animals. But even then, Usopp's claim about a giant goldfish whose excretion is as large as that of an entire island seems far-fetched.
In Chapter 24, Usopp tells his outlandish stories to Kaya where he mentions fighting such a huge goldfish when he was five years old. This is a lie on his part but later it becomes one of Usopp's lies that comes true. In Little Garden, when the Straw Hats meet the giants Dorry and Brogy, they confirm the existence of the giant goldfish.
3) The Land of the Dwarves
In the same chapter, Usopp also tells Kaya about a country where dwarves live. At this point, he has never left his island and therefore has no way of seeing or even knowing of the existence of such a country. However, unlike most of his other far-fetched stories, this one is more likely.
There are many tribes in the world of One Piece and the island of giants, Elbaf, is quite well known. So there must also be a country of dwarves. This turns out to be indeed the case when the Straw Hats encounter the inhabitants of the Kingdom of Tontatta, the land of the dwarves, in Dressrosa Arc.
4) He saw a huge mole
In the Syrup Village Arc, when Usopp sneaks into Kaya's domain to tell his stories and is later joined by the Straw Hats and his three underlings, they are found by Klahadore, Captain Kuro in disguise. When confronted, Ussop lies that he saw a giant mole sneaking into the mansion.
This lie comes true in the Alabasta Arc where Usopp fights his first serious fight. He confronts Miss Merry Christmas aka Drophy, a member of the Baroque Works, who ate the fruit Mogu Mogu no Mi Zoan, making her a mole-human.
5) He hunted a Cerberus
In One Piece Chapter 40, Usopp says goodbye to his boyfriends and they reminisce about their time together. In the small flashback, we see young Usopp and the trio chasing after a dog that Usopp said was Cerberus. This innocent lie comes true in the Thriller Bark Arc where Usopp and his crew encounter a real three-headed dog.
6) He saw a dragon
In the same flashback, Usopp and his gang were chasing a small lizard and Usopp pretended it was a dragon. This becomes one of Usopp's lies which comes true when the Straw Hat Pirates encounter a real dragon on Punk Hazard. Later, Usopp also sees the Eastern Dragons when Kozuki Momonosuke and transforms into their Zoan forms.
7) He is a brave sea warrior and expert sniper
Usopp has always had good aim since childhood, although he rarely uses it for combat purposes. In his flashback with his friends in Syrup Village, Usopp is seen using a slingshot to aim at a target. When he hit the target, he bragged to the trio that he was a brave sea warrior.
Of course, this lie comes true when he sails with the Straw Hat Pirates and, over time, becomes proficient enough to use his sniper skills in battles. In the Enies Lobby Arc, he even takes on the alias Sogeking, an expert marksman and brave sea warrior.
8) He has eight thousand followers
Usopp's stories generally present him as a man famous throughout the world for his skill and courage. On several occasions he claimed to have eight thousand followers, all of whom worship him. This is realized, at least to some extent, in the Dressrosa Arc where Usopp uses his sniper skills to stop Sugar and return many people from their toy bodies to their real bodies.
Because of this enormous contribution, he is nicknamed God Usopp by those he saved. Counting all the people that include the Colosseum warriors, he has indeed gained a lot of followers like his own.
9) He claimed Luffy's first bounty of 30 million bellies as his own
When Luffy defeats Arlong, he gets his first ever bounty of a staggering 30 million bellies. In his bonus poster, Luffy is seen with his sunny smile, but he is not the only one in the photo. Usopp proudly claims the 30 million belly bounty as his own, as the back of his head is visible in the background of Luffy's poster.
However, ultimately Usopp doesn't have to claim Luffy's bounty as his own since he also earns his first ever bounty of 30 million bellies after the Enies Hall arc as Sogeking.
10) There are snow monsters on Drum Island
In the Drum Island Arc, Usopp lies to his crew about the snow monsters on Drum Island. Although the Straw Hats do not find any snow monsters on Drum Island, they later encounter them on the icy side of Punk Hazard.
The Yeti Cool Brothers, Rock and Scotch, are two giants from a special tribe who work as assassins and are employed by Caeser Clown. They are certainly nothing less than snow monsters, making this another Usopp lie that comes true in One Piece.
11) He told Luffy, Zoro and Sanji that a magnificent swordsman had come with meat
In the Thriller Bark Arc, an amusing scene shows Usopp waking up the fainted trio of monsters by claiming that "a handsome swordsman came with meat". This works spectacularly as , , and Luffy regain consciousness as soon as they hear handsome, swordsman, and meat respectively.
However, when this lie comes true, only Luffy can witness it. In Dressrosa Arc, Luffy meets , a beautiful young woman who is also a competing swordsman at the Coliseum and who gives meat to Luffy.
Special mention: His lie about a medicine capable of curing all diseases
Usopp's father, Yassop, is a prolific pirate and member of the Red Hair Pirates, which led him to abandon his family. As a result, Usopp never met his father and his mother was all he had. When she fell ill, he began telling her exaggerated stories to entertain her. On his deathbed, a heartbroken Usopp lies to him about the existence of a medicine capable of curing all the world's diseases.
Although no such medicine exists yet, Usopp's lie has the potential to come true in the future. This lie fits Chopper's dream of finding such a medicine. So, at the end of One Piece, perhaps Chopper would finally achieve his goal and invent such a fully curable medicine. Another possibility is that the Straw Hats found this medicine on Laugh Tale. Regardless, this lie may come true in the future.
These are all of Usopp's lies coming true in One Piece. This is something of a long-running gag in the series and also one of the most exciting. It's always intriguing when one of Usopp's lies comes true, as it opens up many possibilities for the future. Despite being one of the weakest characters, Usopp is an incredible character with a great contribution to the story and we look forward to more of Usopp's lies coming true.
