Garp vs. Blackbeard

Garp vs. Blackbeard: Is Garp still more powerful?

The huge cast of powerful characters gives fans plenty of possible matchups. Some of these confrontations become canonical at some point in history while others remain hypothetical battles. Today's match is just conjecture right now, but the potential for it to become canon very soon is too high to ignore. Here is our vision of vs.
Even with hundreds of characters, some of whom are very powerful, Garp and Blackbeard leave their mark on the minds of fans. One of them is the legendary Marine who rivaled the pirate king Gol D. Roger. Another is a pirate who goes from being a simple crew member to one of the four emperors of the sea. They belong to opposing camps of the law and a fight between them is entirely possible. Now more than ever, as Garp comes to save Koby. Hachinosu or Pirate Island is currently the territory of the Blackbeard Pirates who kidnapped Koby in order to use him as a bargaining chip against the world government. Garp's presence on Hachinosu makes a Garp versus Blackbeard fight entirely possible and imminent. Although Blackbeard is currently not on the island and Garp is busy fighting his former protégé, this match is worth discussing. To determine who will win in a Garp vs. Blackbeard fight, we will need to look at their individual strengths and abilities before comparing them. On that note, let's begin the discussion of the Garp vs. Blackbeard fight.

Monkey D. Garp: Power and Abilities

Monkey D. Garp The first competitor in Garp vs Blackbeard is Monkey D. Garp, Vice Admiral of the World Government Marines. He is famous and respected by all as a Marine hero who was not only a rival of Gol D. Roger, but also joined him in defeating the infamous pirate Rocks D. Xebec. Garp is a fearsome Marine who has given pirates around the world a run for their money. From Whitebeard to Don Chinjao, all of the Navy's former enemies can't help but respect its strength.
During his long career, he was offered the position of admiral several times, but he always refused because he did not want to work directly under the Celestial Dragons. Not only a famous Marine, Garp is also the father of Monkey D. Dragon, the leader of the Revolutionary Army and the most wanted man in the world. He is the grandfather of , one of the current Emperors of the Sea, and the adoptive grandfather that Roger entrusted to him before his execution. A man of conviction and tough love, Garp currently mentors Koby and Helmeppo and has high hopes for the former.

Abilities

It has been implied and even stated several times in the story that Garp, at his peak, was one of the strongest people in the world. Even in his old age, he has not lost all his strength and remains a powerful character. Its name alone is enough to scare pirates. His power is respected not only by the officers and captains of the Navy, but also by the admirals and even by his friend and former fleet admiral, Sengoku. Although most strong characters in One Piece are users, many of them, for example Roger, Rayleigh and , do not use Devil Fruit powers and instead rely on their powerful Haki. Garp is one of them. A proficient user of Haki, he is one of the few characters in the series who can use all three types of Haki and their advanced forms. During the Marineford War, after seeing Luffy awaken his Haoshoku Haki, Garp comments that Luffy's Haoshoku is hereditary, implying that he and Dragon are equally capable of using it. But it's only during the current story arc that we see Garp unleash his terrifying advanced Haoshoku through his attacks.
  • Galaxy Impact: Upon arriving at Hachinosu, Garp uses his advanced Haoshoku through Galaxy Impact, a punching attack that splits open the lands and demolishes everything within a broad radius of it.
  • Blue Hole: In this technique, Garp mixes his Haoshoku with Busoshoku (Armament) Haki. He smashes the head of his opponent with the combined Haki and creates a huge hole in the ground as an impact. Garp uses this technique against Kuzan.

Marshall D. Teach (Blackbeard): power and abilities

Marshall D. Teach (Blackbeard) Blackbeard was introduced to viewers during the Jaya Arc, where he met Luffy and talked about his dreams. At first, its true meaning was unclear. But as the story progresses, it becomes very evident that Blackbeard will be one of the greatest players in the game and Luffy's toughest competition to become the Pirate King. He was formerly a member of the Whitebeard Pirates. But unlike the rest of the crew for whom loyalty and solidarity were essential, Teach's mind was filled with treacherous ambition and greed. He killed his brother Thatch and stole the Yami Yami no Mi. He later defeated Ace, who was chasing him, and sold him to the Marines in exchange for becoming one of the Shichibukai. But unlike the other Shichibukai, he did not fight for the Marines in the Marineford War. His intention was different: he had come to kill the seriously injured Whitebeard and steal his Devil Fruit. It was during the Marineford Arc that Teach did the impossible and became the owner of two Devil Fruits, which cause the death of everyone. After the timeskip, Teach has risen to the rank of one of the Yonko and conspires to steal the last Road Poneglyph to reach Laugh Tale.

Abilities

Blackbeard is the only character in the series to possess not one, but two distinct Devil Fruits. One of them is the Logia type Yami Yami no Mi or the Fruit of Darkness-Darkness. And the other is the Paramecia type Gura Gura no Mi or the Tremor-Tremor fruit, which once belonged to Whitebeard and is considered the most powerful Paramecia fruit in the world. Teach is also capable of using Haki, although so far he has only been seen using Busoshoku and Kenbunshoku Haki. Although judging by his temperament and desire to become the Pirate King, it is quite possible that he can also use Haoshoku Haki.
  • Yami Yami no Mi: this Logia type fruit gives him the power of darkness that can reduce everything to nothing. With this fruit, Blackbeard's body is made of this darkness that acts like a blackhole, attracting everything into it.
  • Gura Gura no Mi: this Paramecia fruit allows the user to create earthquakes and very powerful shockwaves. With it, the user can cause a heavy impact on the atmosphere and as a result, create strong tremors that cause earthquakes.

Strength based

Garp's physical strength has always been his signature. He is capable of carrying large boulders, tearing out tree roots, and breaking up terrain with his punches. Even Luffy, Ace, and Sabo, who were all way too strong for normal kids, feared Garp because of his strength. However, Blackbeard is not someone who prefers hand-to-hand combat. He prefers to scheme and conspire, and use his two immensely powerful Devil Fruits to gain the upper hand in a fight. So when it comes to strength, Garp is the clear winner here.

Based on capabilities

As we mentioned before, there is a huge difference between Garp and Blackbeard's abilities. Garp has no Devil Fruit powers and relies entirely on his physical strength and Haki. Blackbeard, on the other hand, has not one, but two Devil Fruit powers, both among the most powerful in the world. He is also capable of using Haki, but it is nothing compared to the raw strength of Garp's Haki. In One Piece, Devil Fruits are featured as the main power system where the strongest and most important characters are Devil Fruit users. But after the introduction of Haki, it is revealed that some of the biggest people in the series are actually not Devil Fruit users, but rather Haki users. Garp and Roger, who were once the strongest people in the world, did not possess any Devil Fruit powers. However, as time passes, it is entirely believable that Garp no longer possesses the same power as he did at his peak. So, facing two Devil Fruits like the more powerful Paramecia Goro Goro no Mi and the mysterious Logia Yami Yami no Mi would not be an easy task for the Vice Admiral. So we have to give this round of Garp vs. Blackbeard to Teach.

Based on sustainability

We judge a character's durability based on the amount of damage they can take while remaining in a state where they are capable of fighting. Considering Garp and Blackbeard, they will both find them quite durable in combat. But Garp's durability naturally declined with old age. But Blackbeard is still in his prime and has proven his durability in the Marineford War by facing Whitebeard, the strongest man in the world. Once again, Blackbeard wins another round of Garp against Blackbeard.

Based on speed

Neither Garp nor Blackbeard rely on speed in their fights. They are both strong enough to ignore it and their speed has never been anything important in the story. So this round of Garp vs. Blackbeard ends in a tie since they are both likely to be of moderate speed in battles.

Attack-based

If we look at their distinct attacks, we find more variety in Blackbeard's attacks with his two Devil Fruits. Garp's attacks are incredibly powerful, with Galaxy Impact and Blue Hole packing enormous destructive force, but those two are the only ones we've seen from him so far. This will definitely change as his fight against Kuzan progresses. On the other hand, Blackbeard can use many attacks with Gura Gura no Mi and Yami Yami no Mi, as he showed during the Marineford War. He also defeated and destroyed his entire ship and crew, indicating the potential of his attacks. So, based on attacks, Blackbeard takes the cake in this final round of Garp vs. Blackbeard.

Overall comparison

After thoroughly examining every aspect of their individual strengths and scrutinizing their matchup, it is safe to say that if a Garp vs. Blackbeard fight ever happened, Blackbeard would likely win it. We have already explained how we arrived at this conclusion. Garp has the advantage in terms of strength and Haki, but there's no denying the power of two Devil Fruits at the same time.

Is Garp still more powerful than Teach?

Garp vs Blackbeard
Garp vs. Blackbeard
There is no doubt that at his peak, Garp could have defeated Blackbeard. Those with whom he competed at his peak: Roger, Whitebeard, Xebec, support this theory. But as we've said before, Garp isn't as strong as he used to be, and Blackbeard has too many surprises in store to take him lightly. So, in our opinion, Teach is more powerful than the current Garp. Another point that indicates that Blackbeard is stronger than current Garp is the fact that Blackbeard is the final villain of the series, and will inevitably fight against Luffy. But before that happens, Luffy will have to become much stronger. At Luffy's current power level, which is surprisingly high, he still has plenty of opponents to face before fighting his final villain. With this we conclude the entire current debate between Garp and Blackbeard. For more articles like this, check out.
